It has been 17 days since the #MWRA last updated the #COVID #BioBot wastewater data on their website. They stopped doing it right when COVID was starting to surge. They usually update every few days. I am… concerned. #Boston #BostonMA

Good morning SARS2PAians!
I hope your very cloudy annd humid Spring is going well. 💐💐💐
The only thing I have right now are VOC visuals.
Nationally, KP.2 in the lead at 12% of random sequencing. The FLiRT variants are not far behind and VERy fast variants KP.3 and LB.1 are still making fast gains even after only a few days.: https://ibb.co/309Ygcj
In PA, classic JN.1 is still at the lead here. We don't have KP.3 here but we do have fast mover LB.1 which is now over 5% of random sequencing.: https://ibb.co/CpyDWkH
IN NY/NJ, immune evasive variants LB.1 already at over 7% of testing and KP.3 almost at 5%.: https://ibb.co/LZ1hZM7
__________
WastewaterBiobot has released a statement saying they are stopping keeping up their COVID-19 wastwater visuals. There's still WastewaterSCAN but only three sheds are on there.: https://ibb.co/2tYPPcm
https://biobot.io/from-raw-data-to-actionable-insights-biobots-evolution-of-public-data-sharing/
This is another removal of a GREAT tool that helped everyone stay informed, and gave a heads-up when to buckle down on source control issues.
A very good potential replacement for Biobot is Iowa Covid-19 Tracker and I'll start to try to get familiar with that as soon as I can sit down to do it so the vizzes might look very different soon.: https://iowacovid19tracker.org/
I hope to have more info on Friday, and until then have a GREAT week and safe Spring! 💐💐💐

I'm crushed that #Biobot stopped posting real-time county-level #wastewater data. They were the most consistent & transparent source to show that #CovidIsNotOver. Wish they offered subscriptions, I'd pay!
My local #Massachusetts water authority uses Biobot, will this affect their data too?! They don't cover my county exactly, but they're close.
https://www.mwra.com/biobot/biobotdata.htm
Are there any other sources? I'm looking into #WastewaterSCAN, tho they also don't have my county.

Seeing some posts about how now is a good time to do things because #wastewater values are "low" nationwide.
Unfortunately, my county didn't get the memo. In my area, #Biobot values are relatively low, but still about 2x the lowest values of summer 2023 & just about the same as peak values of winter 2020-21.
So, forgive me if I just carry on as usual. 😷
(I know viral shedding is higher for latest variants, but I don't think that can account for all of the difference.)

Yikes. 😬
Any time covid is even mentioned now, it's to say that we're "past the winter surge" and "#wastewater levels are decreasing".
But my area's "decreasing" wastewater is still high!! And now, the latest #biobot data shows my area's wastewater is back up to recent PEAK values!
And still schools and hospitals and "public health" will do NOTHING to prevent infections. 😠

MWRA #COVID19 wastewater data now updated through Tuesday, showing a continued sharp drop-off from the New Year's Eve peak at both sampling points. Now WastewaterSCAN is six days behind, however. (I have no idea how they get out of sync like this; you'd think the #Biobot data would be reported at the same time through both channels.)

A full week of wastewater data now shows a steep decline in covid numbers in the #Boston area.
One interesting thing is that the wave peaks *at* January 1st. I would have expected it to be after, due to transmission at New Years parties. This could imply that covid waves now are more influenced by population immunity and seasonal factors and less by human behaviors (like having parties)—though I imagine all of the above are factors.
(As ever, I'm not an expert.)

Just went down the rabbit hole of #wastewater monitoring for #covid19, specifically in #Michigan.
WTF???
Looks like #BioBot (https://biobot.io/data/covid-19) is the closest thing to a national test network, but it looks like they have all of 1 county (#Leelanau, a personal fave) and only sporadic data there. Meanwhile, Michigan has SWEEP (https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/stats/wastewater-surveillance/dashboard/sentinel-wastewater-epidemiology-evaluation-project-sweep) which has a weird patchwork of sources. This would be tolerable except for one thing: they report wildly divergent numbers. 1/n -

We've none here in Saskatchewan either. Best we can do is dynamically assess and wear 'em. Suppression of information in the time of instagram "here's my lunch pictures" -

2/2 #Wastewater testing was stopped in my county > a year ago and we are flying in the dark. CDC says to mask when community levels are high, but how is anyone to know?
It’s imperative that you continue #wastewater testing throughout the country--and preferably that you expand it. #Covid #surveillance #BiobotComments DUE BY TOMORROW/FRIDAY https://regulations.gov/document/CDC-2023-0055-0001

Welp, for some reason it seems my county has stopped sending #COVID #WastewaterMonitoring data to #Biobot. Cool to know that keeping ourselves safe is entirely up to personal responsibility and also we're just gonna shut down the last tool we had to calculate personal risk tolerance. Nifty. Neat.

CW: covid transmission, Boston metro area
New #biobot #covid sewage data is out for the #Boston metro area covering another week of data (through Tues 1/17). Sadly the downward trend stalled out so is no longer declining. I really hope the decline continues as it did last year so that dining out becomes safe enough again. But anecdotally from our school there's still lots of transmission, so keep masking up!
