I am getting burned out on my breakfast. Coffee, protein shake, and creamer. 150-300 calories depending on how hungry I am when I get up. I need ideas to replace it. I however have food allergies: dairy, meat from a mammal, ginger, hibiscus, sesame seeds, grape seed oil, peanuts, and wheat. So, as you can see I am very limited in food options. CA just passed a law requiring restaurants with at least 20 locations to disclose allergens on their menus! It goes into effect July 1, 2026.
It's progress in allergy awareness, and maybe the benefits will go beyond CA, like if a national chain prints menus to disclose allergens in CA, maybe the same menus will be used in other states too.

Look, if you're going to invite my family for a meal & you know my kid has food allergies, when you say:
"Please bring your own food for him, since I can't commit to having more than 1 thing safe for him to eat."
What I hear is:
"I can't be bothered to accommodate your child's food allergy, it's too inconvenient. Maybe he just shouldn't come."

#Sesame is by far the most difficult #allergen for my family to avoid. 😩 #FoodAllergy
I was thrilled when the #FDA added sesame as a "Top Allergen", requiring it to be included on labels like tree nuts and peanuts.
But instead of making it easier to find safe foods, many companies decided to violate the spirit of the law and either added sesame to products or listed sesame as an ingredient even when not present to avoid instituting safe manufacturing practices.

My local grocery store has replaced the only corn-free mustard it carried with another brand that uses corn.
It's just exhausting constantly managing food.
This grocer is less than ½ mile from my home, but there is a different one 1¼ miles away that still carries the safe mustard. It's an inconvenience to make a special trip to buy mustard, but it's manageable.
Worse things have happened. I know that. It just wears on me.

One patient had an expired epi-pen. The other had never had #anaphylaxis before.
