D and I flew a short combat session at the flying field today,. We had one solid contact, which I won -- he immediately glided his combat wing back to the ground while I was still flying. When I brought mine in for a landing, I saw why he'd come in: half his prop was embedded in the nose of my plane.
No other damage done -- he replaced the prop and we finished the session later (with no more hits).

Yesterday we hiked the red rock slot canyon at Walatowa (Jemez Pueblo). It's a very short, easy hike with a substantial permit fee ($13/ea) but it's beautiful, definitely worth seeing.

A hand-drawn #map for Day 11 of #30DayMapChallenge : the first #autocross course map I drew as a relative newbie autocrosser back in 1987.

Seeing all the cat posts on #Caturday. And I really don't have many cat photos, but searching for images tagged "cat" I found this one, from the Halloween pumpkin glow a couple of years ago.

Nambe Lake, my favorite hike in the Sangres. I didn't get to go last year -- wasn't up to the climb -- but this year I should be okay, and I'm looking forward to it once all the snow clears.

@KrajciTom I can never remember the term #graupel, so we call it snail (snow/hail). But last night we got rain, about 1/3".

We're having big mourning dove flocks this spring, though not many other birds. The other day I was counting doves as they suddenly all startled and flew away. That's not unusual -- doves are the biggest cowards, EVERYTHING frightens them -- but this time they had a good reason, as the local Cooper's hawk promptly landed on the fence overlooking the feeding area, and obligingly stayed there long enough for me to grab the camera.

I was very pleased that I made it up to the top of Cerro Grande. A few months ago, it would have been out of the question, but now I'm on some meds that are helping a lot. The doctors are still mystified as to what's actually wrong with my heart and what that means for the long term, but at least I can hike and hike while they figure it out.
Also: lots of #elk bugling. I couldn't find the sound recorder app on my phone, so I used Merlin to record a few clips.

Today's hiking group destination was Deception Peak, elevation 12,320'. I am, sadly, not up to a climb like that right now, so here's a photo from 2020.

Getting a little tired of Amazon's lying. Yesterday, when I ordered: "Arrives tomorrow." This morning: "Your order has shipped! Arrives Monday." This happens just about every time I order a "tomorrow" item.
I need a Firefox extension that rewrites "tomorrow" on Amazon pages to say "in a few days" so I don't keep forgetting and getting sucked in.

Playing around with a "purple map" of the 2025 US presidential election, starting with just #NewMexico. It's fun to see how the numbers change across my local small town, which areas voted more Republican vs. more Democrat. I used #Python and #Folium to make the #map.
