Lotus club #Autocross at Salinas airport today. Lots of fun with friends but I left the Lotus at home and took our Taycan to give it a work out. Very fast but the weight was too much for street tires. Best time was an afternoon fun run with four of us in the car…

It's a bit damp and unnaturally early (thanks, time change), but we won't let that spoil our first real autocross of the season.

Driving in anger yesterday ( #autocross ) seems to have tweaked my alignment a little bit.
Not pulling, but the steering wheel is cocked a little bit when driving straight, and if I squint just right it looks like the right rear may have slightly too much toe-in.
Guess I'll make an unscheduled visit to my tire guy to get it checked out.

Out of the box ride heights for the 949 Racing XIDA coil overs + 863 bushings. Definitely some work to do but a decent starting point.
Will start with reversing the rake, set front camber and then mount the new 'meats' to see if they'll clear. An NA with 245s... we'll see what I can get away with.

Finally installed the bushings into the Miata's control arms. Satisfying pushing them out and pressing them in.
Slow but steady. Might have it done in time to go back into winter storage at this pace!

Anyone tried Vitour tires for autocross?
They seem to be popular locally, sticky but wear well. Being referred to as the 'cheaters of cheaters'. Banned in SCCA I'm told? One of our local drivers did well this last weekend.
They didn't have the size that I wanted and I've changed the entire suspension so didn't want to end up with a different rolling diameter at the same time - too many changes all at once. Otherwise probably would have gone that route.
Supposedly they don't light off quickly - if sharing a car be the second driver. 😜 🙃

#WeirdCarMastodon there’s an introductory performance #DrivingSchool running on Sunday Oct 20th at Salinas Airport that has space for more attendees. It’s very good for new/young drivers and people who haven’t tried #Autocross or #trackday driving before. Lots of fun, people bring their kids for a day out. Run by the local Fiat club, DM me for signup details.

One of the last washes for the #MR2 this season. I've barely driven it this year.
The goto has been the #Miata all summer; between the #MX5 being the #autocross whip and it being "ready to party" at all times the other car has been neglected.
Both cars put a smile on my face so there's really no reason for it. I'll be preferentially pounding on the MR2 with backhill tobogganing the rest of the season me thinks. The colourful descents into deep autumnal valleys with the MX5 are awesome though.

Twenty minutes after midnight and I'm back in the #garage after test driving the #Miata with it's new 1.25" front sway bar and reinforcing blocks.
I like it!
Kinda darty - channeling the 0 degrees of front and rear toe much more than the marshmallow stock setup.
We'll see how #Autocross goes tomorrow. I'm hoping both me and my son move up a position or two in #STR class.
Heading to the shower. Gotta get up in 5.5 hours. 🙃

Been having consistent " #GPU fell off the bus" type errors under #Linux with my #nvidia #3070 for many months.
Had the same type of crashes under #Windows but #EventViewer doesn't give that type of granularity in it's logging.
I've tried the 'nvidia-smi -pm 1' rumoured fix but it hasn't helped. Supposedly if that doesn't fix it then #RMA is required. This card is out of warranty.
Applied the latest 555 drivers. I hope it works - a new GPU would really cut into the #autocross tire budget.
