The bees today. Very busy, pollen coming in, and the West hive having a traffic jam caused by a bunch of drones on the landing board.
I haven't seen any activity at the bait hive and the bees at the other empty hives seem to be off target and taking a break.

The bees all eventually moved into the top box but I think there was some drift too and the bottom box got more active. The box has comb on all frames except 2 that are bare foundation so not much has to be done and I think there are enough bees they'll be ok before winter. There's lots of honey and pollen in the hive and they are finding pollen somewhere I've noticed since they were moved in plus I have a pollen patty in there.

Bees bringing in the pollen on Saturday morning. I estimate between 100-120 bees per minute with pollen. That could be over 1.5 grams of pollen per minute or 500 grams in 6 hours. More than a pound of pollen and they work hours than that. That's based on them only carrying 15mg of pollen but I read they can carry 30mg.

The water is going down and it's not leaking now since I sealed the print but this is the most bees I've seen drinking water.
This is a bit ridiculous since the hives are 75 feet away from *illions of gallons of water but there's always one or two bees at the dog water, or the geese water, or on dripping faucets. It can't hurt and maybe I'll put a bit of salt and minerals in it for them.

Video of the hive entrance. This location of the camera was really causing a traffic jam and there were a lot of bees doing some circles around the camera before moving on. I have a deadcat on the rode mic so maybe they wanted to check that out on the way by.

I've got a little stash of Verdant, Uncommon and Rocky bees that I'm breeding up for release. All 3 are 'lost' just now. They need to be rehabeelitated first. 🙂

Finally warm enough to get into bee hives. One hive is lost. After doing the post mortem, I think this hive had lost the queen possibly last fall. Top box completely full of honey, bottom box with empty brood frames surrounded by honey. Dead bees mostly just on the bottom. There had been a couple of huge die-offs when there was still snow on the ground. Still some were alive 4 weeks ago but soon after were done. It sucks but they were never a strong hive right from the beginning. In retrospect, I should have re-queened last summer.
Strong hive is 2 boxes full of bees. They still have honey but they had eaten all the candy board and all the pollen pattie I gave them a couple of weeks ago. Very active and healthy. Still not warm enough to do a full inspection. I think this one needs to be split as soon as weather and resources permit. The nice thing was that even though it was quite an intrusion to them and they got pretty excited, they were not aggressive to me. I am happy how these genetics are playing out.
Have a new nuc from the same place as the strong box coming in 4 weeks so they will get full frames of honey to start them off. Hail to the Wee Girls.

Ik heb me voorgenomen om dit jaar kilometers te maken. Wandelen met bepakking. Er ligt voor komend jaar nog een lang gekoesterde droom die maar eens werkelijkheid moet worden.
Gisteren Reutum – Ootmarsum – Vasse gewandeld. Bij de Witte Hoeve het bos ingestoken over de Tumuliweg. Vanaf hier zie je de kerktoren van Vasse hoog boven de nu nog kale bomen uitsteken.
Een fraaie Mariakapel markeert de ingang van het bos.

The bees have mostly yellow pollen, and some bright orange and a mix of dirty colors but not a lot of that. The first drone bee spotted coming out of the West hive. A drone and a very light colored bee at the Center hive which has more darker bees. It really stands out.
