after mistakenly trusting a facebook marketplace seller to sell me organic beeswax (nope, it was clearly some nasty synthetic shit dyed bright yellow, what a fool i am), i ordered some online... and it just arrived.

it promises to be locally harvested in a harm-free way for the bees (#beekeepers is this a real thing?).

and it smells, according to my boo, like a blueberry pogo.

i want to swim in it. but instead i'll make a salve, once i have enough calendula blooms harvested.

Beekeepers in eastern France are racing to contain an explosion in numbers of Asian hornets since 2023 that is devastating hives.

The yellow-legged hornet first arrived in France in 2004, but only reached the Haut-Rhin in 2023. It is now firmly entrenched.

A wild (ridiculous) one for this week's #GrindayFriday. I listened to this one a lot this week-- I just kept coming back to it. Asheville, North Carolina's SLUMGUM is 'hive grind' - that is, grindcore made by a beekeeper - and yes, all songs on Slumgum's self-titled debut are bee themed. Love the brutal, bizarre sounds and riffs on this one. Powerviolence vocals here and there. The intro of 'Drone Expulsion' always makes my ears perk up. A very strange one if you enjoy the very strange.

"The custom of "telling the bees" is a charming and ancient #tradition where #beekeepers inform their bees about significant events in their lives, such as deaths, births, marriages, and other major occurrences. This practice is believed to have its roots in #Celtic mythology, where bees were seen as messengers between the human world and the spirit world. The presence of a #bee after a death was thought to signify the #soul leaving the body. The tradition became particularly prominent in the 18th and 19th centuries in Western Europe and the United States.
To tell the bees, the head of the household or the "goodwife" would approach the hives, gently knock to get the #bees' attention, and then softly murmur the news in a solemn tone. This ritual was believed to keep the bees informed and prevent them from leaving the hive or dying. The #custom underscores the deep connection and respect that people #historically had for bees, viewing them as integral members of the household and community.
