И, что характерно, в центральной её части, всё как у Владимира Семёновича, происходят странные события с летальными исходами. Но виной тому не ужасный, захватывающий мир хантавирус (сарказм, если что, сразу предупреждаю), и даже не Эбола, которая там вполне себе реально существует и представляет собой очень даже реальную осязаемую опасность, а медицинская деза.
Впрочем, обо всём по порядку. В провинции Чопо на северо-востоке Демократической Республики Конго прошлой осенью началась паника из-за «загадочной болезни», которая якобы вызывает у мужчин атрофию гениталий. Болезни не существовало: местные власти проверили сообщения от пяти предполагаемых пострадавших и не нашли доказательств. Но слух оказался заразнее инфекции (в связи с этим напоминаю очень хороший термин «инфодемия»). За несколько дней в соцсетях появились «свидетельства очевидцев», ролики из церквей, рассказы о «чудесном исцелении молитвой», публикации местных СМИ, после чего мнимая угроза превратилась в реальное насилие.
Медработники приехали в деревни района Исанги, чтобы проводить опросы, связанные с вакцинацией. Их приняли за «распространителей» несуществующей болезни: у чужаков были яркие жилеты и планшеты, что, как вы понимаете, прямо свидетельствует в пользу их зловредности. Плюс ещё про вакцинацию спрашивали, что преступление уже само по себе. На всякий случай четверых медиков убили. Подозревают, что таких убийство уже минимум 17, но доказать пока удалось лишь небольшую часть.
В ДКР недоверие к официальной медицине подпитывается колониальной памятью, современными историями о, прямо скажем, неэтичных и не всегда оправданных клинических испытаниях с участием бигфармы (такое тоже было), слабым доступом к медицинской помощи, неравенством, слабостью социальных институтов и просто невероятной скоростью распространения слухов в соцсетях.
Особую роль в этой истории сыграли религиозные площадки и локальные СМИ. В некоторых видео пасторы и прихожане рассказывали о «чудесном исцелении», хотя доказательств самой болезни не было. Один из роликов набрал сотни тысяч просмотров. И не то, чтобы «интернет опять всё испортил», слухи образовывались в общинах, затем перекочёвывали в соцсети и местные СМИ, а уже оттуда возвращались в реальную жизнь, с толпами, голословными обвинениями и линчеванием. Которое, к слову, продолжается до сих пор. Не далее как в марте толпа растерзала женщину по обвинению в распространении той самой несуществующей «болезни».
Фейковая болезнь не убила никого. Но слух о ней - убил. И, глядя на ситуацию с хантавирусом Andes, я понимаю, что не так далеко мир от ДРК ушёл. Да, врачей пока не убивают, а сбрасывают на остров, прицепив к десантникам. С парашютами. Но это пока. Вопрос - долго ли будет длиться это «пока» и не собьёт ли какая-нибудь следующая вспышка или не дай бог пандемия какой-нибудь новой или даже уже известной инфекции тонкий налёт цивилизованности. С африканскими последствиями.
