  2. Bought a new bank note!

This is from the 1902 series and was issued by The American National Bank of Vincennes sometime between 1920 and 1923.

This bank was originally named The German National Bank of Vincennes and changed its name in 1918, very likely due to anti-German sentiment at the time.

The front portrait is Benjamin Harrison, US President from Indianapolis, and the "Landing of the Pilgrims" is on the reverse.

  3. #30DayMapChallenge 🗺️ Day 2️⃣1️⃣: Conflict

I figured a lot of mappers will create maps about recent wars and conflicts so I decided to create a map about #WorldWarI and see if #Wikidata is a good enough source for its battles, conflicts, and military operations.

I also wanted to know if there are any open data sources for historical borders, and I found one, CShapes! icr.ethz.ch/data/cshapes/

  4. The International Committee of the Red Cross during #WorldWarI exchanged prisoner of war data between the conflict parties (mainly of soldiers from the Western Front). Their archive website grandeguerre.icrc.org/ provides lists of prisoner movements etc. as well as search requests. It helped me to recreate the time Emil Hercher wikitree.com/wiki/Hercher-33 spent as a French prisoner of war. Even if there was no record of his escape, it helped to fill some gaps.

#WikiTree #WorldWar1 #GreatWar

  6. After learning about him only yesterday, I created another profile from the category "significant relationships to our family". This time it's pharmacist Heinrich Siever from #Lüdenscheid aka "the guy with whom the brother of my great-grandmother broke out from a French prison during World War I":

Gemischte Ersatz-Brigade"? Das @LandesarchivBW nummeriert die Einheiten zumindest so. Gibt es da ein System? 🤔
