#PennedPossibilities 1166: Would any of your characters actually survive a “zombie” apocalypse?
In-universe, zombie (🧟 🧟♀️ 🧟♂️) would be defined as ordinary humans infected by a saliva-vector communicative disease akin to a rabies-leprosy on steroids that turns people into shambling demented cannibals with rotting skin and a taste for uncured head cheese? That kind of describes most depictions of zombies, doesn't it?
First factor: None of the characters would be statistically likely to be near the initial outbreak where the spread begins.
Second factor: Health Services is a big agency that oversees the health and safety of the entire population. With modern communication, outbreaks would be caught and understood in days.
Third factor: The climate is extremely hot, night and day. Without available water and the intelligence to drink it and find shelter during deadly heat, zombies become mummies pretty quickly, limiting the outbreak automatically.
Fourth factor: Shambling by definition isn't flying, so angel zombies aren't spreading the disease worldwide. Rabies-like symptoms will prevent daemonic zombies from performing miracle-work (not explaining) that could negate their shambling disability.
The characters all live in the city, have it on the ball, and, for factors above, the apocalypse will either exhaust itself or become a "controlled outbreak" quickly. I suspect the constabulary would work to contain it, with whistles being distributed to civilians and day angels patrolling the skies. The characters would all avoid being bitten or being chewed up. Daemons can make zombie capture completely hands-free.
The reporter SC and the MC, who is also a photographer working with him, would be in the most danger since they would be reporting on the outbreak.
