  1. It has come to my attention that my favourite jacket is falling apart. I would like to repair it for two reasons:

    1. I love this jacket.
    2. I can't afford a new one right now.

I have no opposition to #VisibleMending.

    Suggestions?

  2. Does anyone know if there's a way for a web app to use a Mastodon account as a user authentication method, the same way you can use a Google or Facebook account? Being a decentralized service, is that a thing that could actually work? Bonus points of there's a package already in existence.

  3. Just finished upgrading #Debian to #trixie on 1 of 3 of my machines. Only one thing broke, and fixing it is a low priority.

That said, I did this machine first because I expected it to be the easiest to upgrade and the least of a problem if it broke.

    I love #usenet.

  9. Finally got aroind to signing up for an eternal-september account.

God, I'd forgotten how toxic the #StarTrek fan base can be.

That said, #usenet as a whole seems to be a magnet for toxicity in general.

  14. Looks like I might have to figure out how to set up #DKIM.
  15. So, somebody has registered an #LLM bot as a player on #LambdaMOO. I've banned it from the areas that I control, but can't ban it from public spaces.

How might I best go about messing with it? So far, I've just been feeding it lies when it asks me questions.

I've also already slipped a sign in its inventory that identifies it as as an LLM to anyone who happens to look at it.

  16. CW: religion: mormonism
The thing about being in the Mormon church for 12 years is that bits of it stay lodged in your brain forever despite your best efforts. I just caught myself humming a hymn, ironically enough while making my morning coffee. That just feels... wrong.

  17. CW: Mormonism
    @exmormon
I've been doing some writing. It started out as a way of processing some of the religious trauma inflicted upon me by my experiences with the LDS church, but it's been turning into something of a memoir. @katy's been proofreading as it progresses.

Today, I wrote a chapter about my exprience with the endowment ceremony. As she was proofreading, there were multiple times where I was asked: "they did WHAT?" It's fun getting an outsider's perspective on the nonsense.

  18. Every time I read #UnixSurrealism it makes me want to switch to #Plan9.

This is absolutely not a reasonable option for me, but it doesn't stop me from wanting to do it.

  19. Okay, my first #Emacs package is officially released. It was strongly inspired by @sorobanexam's work, providing practice tools for the #soroban. This is the first Emacs package I've ever released. It's probably not perfect, but I welcome feedback on how it can be improved.

I wonder if there is an overlap of more than say five people who are both soroban and emacs users. 🙃

Anyhow, it can be found at: codeberg.org/jlamothe/soroban

  20. It's been brought to my attention that while #BuyNothing groups are pretty useful, they tend to exist mainly on Facebook. It'd be nice to have such a group for #WaterlooRegion here on the fedi as well.

I'd be happy to set one up, but if there's one that already exists, I'd rather use that than start from scratch. Is anyone aware of such a group here?

In particular, I seem to have managed to break jlamothe's

  27. Does anyone happen to know if there's an easy way to get #emacs's nov.el package to display text using the #OpenDyslexic font? I was hoping there was a customization variable, but it seems not.

Perhaps I could run it in a terminal editor and change the terminal's font, but then I'd lose things like images.

I can hack something together if I really need to, I'd just rather not if there's a simpler solution available.

Edit: I was able to do this through M-x customize-face
