@blogdiva @_elena I whole heartily agree. And I’m an Old here. I originally joined the Fediverse in 2917 on an Instance that wasn’t very active so I rarely interacted and posted.
But just prior to the first wave of massive Twitter migration I checked back in to find out I had 24 hours left to move to a new instance. Boy oh boy, my new home was actually not a place I wanted to hang out locally. So I quickly learned to build my Home stream by following interesting people and interacting with them by comments, shares (boosts) and then I saw interesting people there who also,like me, had commented. My Home stream became my first read of the day when I checked in.
Now, where did I find those people? Why that would be the open source Wild West of the Fediverse. The numbers of people posting made a fast moving stream and I could pop over to any interesting post and there were my People! My Tribe is on open source social media and I found them! What a joy.
After a few months I refined my streams to appear in column view, 3 columns across: Home, Local, Fediverse. After a year I found out about Lists and by golly, I could put a List as another stream in a column! My “rock people” are in one, my personal friends in another, my “news people” another. Wowie, I’m making my own algorithm for me, me alone, and it works well. I no longer miss current posts from people I care most about. Yes Antifa Lisa, I’m here for the #Anarchy and #PunkAsFunk. Go Fediverse! Go Mastodon! Go beige.party which is my Instance and #NotACult

Lads, I don't know who isn't remembering Alt Text, but to drop to 66% is horrendous. If we don't sort this out we may end up with _consequences_ at the next "gathering" and none of us want that!!
You can sort your settings out so that it reminds you to Alt Text, and if you can't alttext please use the hashtag Alt4Me and someone will write you some alt text which you can then add to your post

@WorldTravelerAll7 Ha-ha! I was on a typical Instance with the typical 500 character limit. I had to find a new one because the one I was on was shutting down. So I looked around and started noticing what the Instances are for some people I like a lot and those I’m Mutuals with.
Ta-da, I’m super happy *here* since I became Beige. And then I saw there is/was a 10,000 character limit. I think it just went up again.

Sometimes... I go to the beige side... Not the dark side. Not the light side. The beige one! :bb:
When I wanna explore more *not* cult member toots, I click on the instance time line and I get sucked in to the wonderful world of beige.
Sometimes there is imposter syndrome kicking in. Especially when I feel bläh... I don't feel like I'm worthy of being in the presence of all these wonderful people.
Sometimes I don't really get half of what they're saying, making me feel like I'm not "good enough" to be beige...
But all in all... Beige.party thank you for being so awesome!!

@andrew So many responses and good ones too! But I don’t see you replying to any. Wondering. Hope you see soon such an outpouring. Heck, if you do nothing else but follow each person who has replied, you will have a massive kickstart on your stream.
I hope you are aware that single instance servers/instanes will need to furnish reason other instances should allow your instance access and chumminess. Other instances will notice you the more you interact with other instance members and vice versa.
So maybe I’m the first person in the #NotACult beige.party to notice your call. Welcome!
PS I may be only a social member “bear of simple brain” explaining what I just suggested. All are welcome to say it better than I. 😉

I think it’s time for more of my followers from “the old instance” be sure to follow me at this #NotACult party. So I present a tiny #TipOfDay for dog owners who want to give good quality dog food economically. Our terrier Buddy has the nerve to be picky about his food. Pretty uppity for this dog from a shelter. Oh, who am I kidding: he’s smart enough to have figured us for patsies.
Dry dog food from Aldi or Costco that is grain-free works but he rarely will eat it alone. We usually add 1/3 cup of “wet food” (canned dog food). It also works out with 1/4 cup cat food! Since Covid took hold in 2020, have you noticed the availability and choices for dog food has dropped by maybe half? AND unless you want Chicken you are limited. Buddy likes beef, duck and sometimes-rarely salmon or tuna.
So I continue to make his food about every 2 months. I’ve shared the photos and recipe I developed, in the past at the old place. Do you have tips to share about pet food? This cat food I get is whatever is on sale in a small can. Gets about 3 or 4 meals mixed with the dry dog food. Only a few times a month for the added cat food. I rotate his food a few times a month, adjusting the ingredients in small steps. Oh yes, I save a LOT of money and it’s better nutrition. #DogsOfMastodon
