This picture of a #blackkite was taken a few years ago, in the evening as the sun was setting. It circled around above the house for about 15 minutes, majestic and exceptionally, for that time of year, alone in the sky.

Not being an expert in anything arachnoid, I had to resort to #googlelens to tell me that this is probably a #Pisaura mirabilis spider, out on the hunt amongst the oak leaves on the ground.

A spur of the moment drive from #Tralee to Fenit harbour gave me the good fortune to snap this with my #PocoF1. Just missed the dolphins feeding of the harbour point underneath St. Brendan's statue. Fortunately, we'd seen them a few days prior to today from St. Brandon's point across the bay in the background where the cliffs meet the sea.

It was a day for the #birds, as I was out clearing a path through the long grass in the #wood, #notsosilentsunday. Whilst out, I had a curiosity visit from three #goldenorioles, albeit not the ones in the picture below, taken one summer's evening several year's ago. At the same time, a #cuckoo decided to perch in an oak nearby and call out very loudly to all and sundry, and then a magnificent #blackwoodpecker came and landed right in my field of view to peck at a pine and call out forlornly.

Most descriptions I've read about European jays state say "shy birds". Where we live, in the #Auvergne, very much not the case. They are highly gregarious, groups of 5 or more regularly fighting over food, cackling and squawking, and chasing around the garden. Taken under the bird feeder here, where they have learned the trick of jumping on it to spin it, causing peanuts to be flung over the ground, where they then clean up.

A bit late for #FungiFriday and too early for #MycoMonday, but I was out chopping up some fallen trees in the wood this morning and came across this fungus growing on a small piece of dead oak from the remaining bark, which has been laying around for several years.
#GoogleLens tells me this is #Tremella aurantia or #Tremella mesenterica, aka "Witches Butter" in French.
