  9. Most descriptions I've read about European jays state say "shy birds". Where we live, in the , very much not the case. They are highly gregarious, groups of 5 or more regularly fighting over food, cackling and squawking, and chasing around the garden. Taken under the bird feeder here, where they have learned the trick of jumping on it to spin it, causing peanuts to be flung over the ground, where they then clean up.
