AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup – April 2026
Introduction
Hi, and welcome to another edition of the AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup!
This time we’ll have a look at what has been going on in the community and on the platform in April.
Without further ado, let us head over to the news!
Software News
AirPrint
This is a printer utility for AmigaOS 4.
According to the author:
“This is only released through the Forum of http://www.amigans.net for Alpha testing. Still early stage, but work is ongoing.”
Release 0.36A:
1. Printer spooler directory should work properly now, this caused a lot of
problems.2. Printers was found trough search function, but printer properties was not
added correctly or not found. Should be working better now.3. Added SSL support, but require that you have AmiSSL installed, link to
Os4Depot above. For some of the debug logs I got from you, the printers required
SSL.4. In the search window I added the possibility to search by manual ip address
in case your printer is located on another subnetwork and my auto search does
not find it.https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=utility/print/airprint.lha
AirScan
Version 0.2 of AirScan has been released. This is an Amiga scanner utility based on the ESCL protocol. You can search for scanners in your network with the MDNS protocol. You can also add scanners by their IP address. Works with eSCL 2.5 and 2.62 devices. Tested on Epson XP-322 and Epson ET L3160.

AmigaDiskBench v2.8
Derfs is back again with an update to AmigaDiskBench.
AmigaDiskBench is a modern, high-performance disk benchmarking utility specifically designed for AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition.
It provides a robust, ReAction-based GUI to measure, analyze, and visualize the performance of various storage devices, filesystems, and hardware configurations.
v2.9 (Current)
– Fixed: Random 4K Write, Random 4K Read, and Mixed R/W 70/30 tests failed on all hardware. ChangeFilePosition() returns -1 on some systems/filesystems despite the seek succeeding. Seek error detection now uses IoErr() instead of the return value.
– S.M.A.R.T. attribute name table expanded from 36 to 68 known attributes. Added SSD-specific attributes (Samsung, Intel, Micron, Kingston), HDD mechanical attributes, extended LBA counters, and missing ID 11 (Calibration Retry Count).
– Build identification: startup banner always prints version and build timestamp to the debug console.
– Module-selective debug: DEBUG_THIS_MODULE opt-in mechanism for focused serial debug output during diagnosis.https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=utility/benchmark/amigadiskbench.lha

Hwp_HTTPStreamer
In the readme over on OS4Depot, we can read the following:
“This plugin enables Hollywood to open and stream files from HTTP sources as if they were stored on a local drive. Once this plugin has been activated, all Hollywood functions that deal with files will “automagically” be able to open files from HTTP sources as well. Starting with version 2.0, HTTP Streamer also supports the hURL plugin, which makes it possible to stream data using lots of other protocols, such as HTTPS or FTP.
HTTP Streamer uses a sophisticated multi-threaded design for highly efficient
streaming. Each connection is managed by a dedicated thread for optimal performance. The
plugin also supports Hollywood 6.0’s new streaming APIs, which means that you will be able to
stream audio and video files from HTTP sources with plugins like avcodec.hwp.”https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=library/hollywood/httpstreamer.lha
Hwp_hURL
Another nice plugin for Hollywood.
“hURL is a plugin for Hollywood that allows you to transfer data using many different protocols. Furthermore, hURL supports SSL certificates, HTTP POST, HTTP PUT, FTP uploading, HTTP form based upload, proxies, HTTP/2, cookies, user+password authentication (Basic, Plain, Digest, CRAM-MD5, NTLM, Negotiate and Kerberos), file transfer resume, proxy tunneling and more. It really is the ultimate data transfer engine for Hollywood, leaving nothing to be desired.”

Changes since the previous release are as follows:
– A configurable ruler above the waveform display now shows time or sample
position.– Fixed: After changing the font in the Settings, the font name gadget could
show garbage in certain circumstances.– Fixed: An off-by-one error introduced in sndeditor.gadget 1.5 could freeze the
system when click-dragging past the gadget’s right border.– Added a workaround for a bug in button.gadget <54.3 that could trigger a race
condition and result in a crash on AmigaOne X1000 computers.– Based on a user request, lowered the minimum supported sample rate to 4000 Hz.
– Various other smaller improvements and fixes.
– Updated documentation.

ScummVM
Maijestro, who runs the Amiga Retro Channel on YouTube, is working hard to improve the AmigaOS 4 port of ScummVM and keep it up to date. No easy task for sure, but he is doing a great job so far! I’m happy that this version runs fine on my A1222+.
Old screenshot showing The Curse of the Monkey Island running through ScummVM.ScummVM is a program that allows you to run many classic point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have the game data files. ScummVM replaces the executables shipped with the original games, allowing you to play them on modern hardware.
This is a native AmigaOS4 PPC port of ScummVM, built with GLES2 support via Warp3D Nova. It runs on AmigaOne X5000 and compatible hardware. For QEMU and Pegasos2 users, Wazp3D is required as a software OpenGL replacement:
https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=library/graphics/wazp3d.lha
VERSION HISTORY:
2026.2.0-AmigaOS4 – Major update– Updated to ScummVM 2026.2.0

AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup – January 2025
AmigaOS 4 News – January 2025
Hi,
Welcome to a new edition of the AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup! 🙂 Thanks for visiting my blog. Hope you’ll enjoy the news!
New year, new opportunities. Let’s have a look at what happened on the platform in January.
Software News
Screenshot by PuniIn earlier monthly roundups, we’ve read a lot about the FlashMandelNG tool. Dino Papararo and Edgar Schwan are once again back with an update. Version 5.3 sees the following changes:
- Reworked and speededup color remapping algorithms
- Fixed parsing of “COLORSREMAP” ToolType
Smart Filesystem 1.279 by Jörg Strohmayer is available to download on OS4Depot. This version, however, is an older one. The newest is only available through the Enhancer Software package from A-EON Technology. Still, it can be useful for those not using Enhancer. Here is the link to the download.
Frank Wille has released updated version of vasm m68k std, vasm PPC std, and vasm 68k mot. vasm is a portable and re-targetable assembler to create linkable objects in various formats and absolute code. Multiple CPU-, syntax, and output-modules can be selected. More information is available here:
http://sun.hasenbraten.de/vasm/
Now here is an interesting one. Anyone into the field of genealogy? If yes, then you might find the following software helpful. The application is called AmiGen and it is a genealogist program developed by R. Florac. The author states the documentation and the catalogue is in French only at the moment. If you’d like to AmiGen, here is the download link.

Image by McFlyGeorge Sokianos a.k.a. Walkero had released a new game port for AmigaOS 4. This time he brought over Jazz Jackrabbit to the platform! This is a fun and entertaining platform game series that was created and started by Epic Megagames back in 1994. After the first game, others in the series followed such as Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and Jazz Jackrabbit 3. You can read more about this on Wikipedia.

This is the port of openjazz to AmigaOS 4.
OpenJazz is a free, open-source version of the classic Jazz Jackrabbit(TM)
games. To play, you will need the files from one of the original games.
With the demise of DOS-based operating systems, it has become necessary to use
emulators to play old DOS games. Jazz Jackrabbit(TM) deserves more – and would
benefit greatly from new features.about:blank
Jazz Jackrabbit(TM) is a PC platform game. Produced by Epic Games (then Epic
MegaGames), it was first released in 1994. The fast-paced, colourful gameplay
proved popular, and the game won PC Format’s Arcade Game of the Year award.
Many people still fondly recall the shareware versions. If you want to download the AmigaOS 4 port, please head over to OS4Depot by clicking here.
Screenshot by PuniKeep in mind that you’ll need the data files. Walkero has tested the port with the data files from the games from GOG (Good Old Games). They currently have a -84% discount on the Jazz Jackrabbit Collection right now if you are interested.
Roman “Kas1e” Kargin created a port of this game series back in 2012. Since then, the OpenJazz project has received several updates. It now uses SDL2 for example. Due to problems with the bonus stage on many platforms, it has been disabled in the new OpenJazz version. This stage works fine in Kas1e’s old port.
If you are happy about George Sokianos work, you can support him on Ko-Fi. There he shares news and other interesting information about his projects. 🙂

AmigaOS 4 News – April 2024
Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting my blog and the AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup. 🙂
Another month has soon passed and May will be upon us. As I write this it is April 30th and I’ve just finished writing the monthly roundup. There was a lot to report this time and it has taken a good amount of time to compile the report. I enjoy it a lot and it is fun to discover and learn about all that is happening in our community. Big thanks to all the developers, users, and enthusiasts who keep the flame burning! 🙂
I’m sure you are eager to check out the news, so without further ado, here is the roundup for April 2024. 😉
Software News
On April 1st, DRIDI released version 2.9z7Final of the Arabic Console Device. According to the author, this version contains better vowel and hamza support inference. More information is available on OS4Depot.
The always-active Kjetil Hvalstrand (LiveForIt) is back with a new release. This time it is a utility called Stackdump. It is a security demonstration tool. It will show you a security risk in a hex dump.
In previous monthly roundups, we’ve read a lot about the FlashMandelNG tool. Dino Papararo and Edgar Schwan are once again back with an update. Version 5 is a bugfix release with added support for benchmark mode in ToolTypes and CLI.
Following the release of Heretic II from Hyperion Entertainment comes a massive pack of multiplayer maps compiled by and uploaded to OS4Depot by TheMagicSN. This pack will be needed to play on PC Heretic II servers to avoid maps are downloaded while playing, which is slow. An installer is included.
Screenshot from the website of Alinea ComputerHe also made an archive called H2_Big_Data which is important for playing Heretic II multiplayer games. This one is about 1.6 GB and is available on Aminet. TheMagicSN writes as follows:
“This archive contains an installer to the custom material (maps, models, etc.) which I was given by Paul Gagnon of H2 Vault. To be able to use the PC multiplayer sites with the Amiga port of Heretic 2 he recommends installing this material.
It comes with an Amiga-friendly installer. It also optionally offers to install a new config.cfg for the Amiga version of Heretic II which adds the multiplayer servers of H2 Vault to the address book of the game. Note that when overwriting your config.cfg you overwrite your Video, Sound, and Controls Options.
This archive has some broken models that could crash Heretic II removed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you already downloaded 1.0.0 you do not need to download this huge archive again. H2_Big_Data_Fix.lha which is only a few Kilobytes in Size contains a script that will delete the faulty models.”
You can download the fix from Aminet:
https://aminet.net/package/game/shoot/H2_Big_Data_Fix
I tried the multiplayer mode in Heretic II during the weekend and it worked fine. 🙂
Open Fodder
Now for news concerning a port of well-known classic that has been ported to AmigaOS 4. Which classic game is that? It is Cannon Fodder and Cannon Fodder 2, and the various specials and demos from cover disks!
Screenshot by PuniCannon Fodder was one of the most popular games on the Amiga. It was also popular on the PC and probably many other platforms. I remember playing it on my Amiga 500 and later 1200 in the 90’s. I still have the original disks in my collection, but it has been a long time since I checked if they worked.
More information about Cannon Fodder can be found at Hall of Light:
https://amiga.abime.net/games/view/cannon-fodder
In short, it is an action strategy game developed by Sensible Software and published by Virgin Interactive. You are in control of a group of soldiers and the goal is to complete the missions you get assigned for. You control the soldiers with your mouse, controlling their movement by clicking around on the map and using the buttons to shoot and customize formation, etc.
Open Fodder is an open-source version of the Cannon Fodder engine for modern operating systems. It supports not only the Amiga version of the games but also the PC ones.
- Cannon Fodder (Amiga, Amiga CD32, DOS CD)
- Cannon Fodder 2 (Amiga, DOS CD)
- Demos (various cover disks from magazines like Amiga Power, The One, Amiga Format, Amiga Action, PC Format, etc.)
Thanks to the porting done by Smarkusg, we can now enjoy Cannon Fodder natively on our AmigaOS 4 systems. 🙂 Here is a link to his Open Fodder GitHub page.
Screenshot by PuniTo start playing, you can download the archive from OS4Depot:
http://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=game/action/openfodder.lha
The archive comes bundled with demos you can try, but you’ll need to provide the full version yourself. The files from these must be copied to their appropriate directories in the “OpenFodder/Data/” drawer. You will find one called “Dos_CD”. Here you can copy over the files from the DOS version. The game will then pop up in the menu when you launch Open Fodder.
Screenshot by Puni Screenshot by Puni Screenshot by PuniCannon Fodder is available for purchase from GOG:

I have tried Open Fodder on my Sam460 and also in emulation and it performed very well.
Quake II
Not long ago, Hyperion Entertainment released a new port of Heretic II for AmigaOS 4 by Steffen Häuser a.k.a. TheMagicSN. Häuser has since then been working hard on making various mods available, as well as multiplayer support for the game. Not only that, he’s been working on a new updated port of Quake 2 for AmigaOS 4 as well!
The picture is from the webshop of Alinea ComputerIt is available for purchase at Alinea Computer in Germany. Since it is a download, you’ll get access to it very quickly.
The price is 14.95 EUR.
Here’s the information from Alinea Computer:
Quake 2 is without doubt one of the most famous 3D shooters. Quake 2 was released on the PC by id Software in 1997. In 2002, Hyperion Entertainment released a version for AmigaOS 3.x, based on the GPL source code of the game. Steffen Häuser has now created a new version for AmigaOS 4, which also offers numerous improvements compared to the 4.1 Quake 2 update released a few years ago. In particular, the Quake 2 Mission CDs, which offer countless new levels, are supported for the first time in a native OS4.1 version. Warp3DNova (and MiniGL and software renderers) are also supported natively.
This game, based on the GPL source code, also requires the data files of the PC version, either as a CD or the data of the Steam or Gog Classic version (for the latter two, simply copy them to a directory on your hard drive and select this directory during installation).
Features
- AmigaOS 4 native version
- GL4ES, MiniGL and Software Renderer
- full support for mission CDs “The Reckoning” and “Ground Zero”
- Ports to the unofficial mission CD “Zaero” and to about 50 multiplayer mods will be published on os4depot/Aminet soon, these downloads require the new version of Quake 2
- AmigaInput support
- CD Audio works again (in the old version it only worked with older CD drives)
- As an alternative to CD Audio, Ogg Vorbis files can be played as soundtrack, the music files from this version are already pre-installed during a Steam/Gog install
- Installer now works with PC CD of Quake 2 as well as with the Steam and Gog Classic version, when using the Steam/Gog Classic installer the two mission CDs are installed at the same time. We recommend using the Steam version for easy installation.
- As an alternative to the .cin intros, the game now also supports .avi and .mpeg files (a script to convert the .ogv files of the Steam version is included on the ISO if you want the higher resolution video files)
System requirements
- Software: AmigaOS 4.1 and the data files from Steam, Gog or CD version.
- Hardware: At least 150 MHz PowerPC, 32 MB RAM, graphics card, at least
- 1 GB free hard disc space, A1222 is currently not supported, game can also be played on QEmu and UAE PPC
In connection with the new Quake 2 release, TheMagicSN has ported the unofficial mod Zaero by Team Evolution. Team Evolution gave the full game away some years after the initial release in 1998. Note that you will need the new port of Quake 2 released in 2024 to be installed to play it.
TheMagicSN has uploaded several modpacks for the Quake 2 port to Aminet. As the author states, these packs “(…) contains game modifications for the new AmigaOS 4 version of Quake 2 released in 2024. It does not work with other versions of Quake 2, as they either do not support mods or not AmigaOS 4 native compiled mods.”

Hollywood Designer 7.0
I’ve been a user of Hollywood and Hollywood Designer for quite a few years now. For those unaware, Hollywood is a programming language that supports many different platforms, such as AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS, Windows, Linux, etc. It was created by Airsoft Softwair.
One of many excellent features is that you can compile your source code easily for any of the supported platforms. If you’re on MorphOS, you can compile the source for AmigaOS 4 for example, no problem. 🙂
Hollywood Designer is a great addition to Hollywood since it is a point-and-click tool to create everything from presentations to applications without the need to write a single line of code! There are native versions of the program for AmigaOS 3 (m68k), WarpOS (hybrid m68k/ppc), MorphOS (ppc), AmigaOS 4 (ppc), and AROS (x86).
Screenshot taken from the news release from Airsoft SoftwairOn April 14th this year, version 7 of Hollywood Designer was released. Please read on for the full news release from Airsoft Softwair:
20 years ago, on April 14th 2004, Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, released the very first version of Hollywood Designer, the ultimate multimedia authoring system for Hollywood. In the following years Hollywood Designer quickly became the must-have software for all users seriously interested in creating state-of-the-art multimedia applications, be it presentations, slide shows, games, or applications. Now, 20 years later, Airsoft Softwair is proud to present Hollywood Designer 7.0, an epic update with lots and lots of new features to properly celebrate the 20th birthday of this marvellous piece of software.
Screenshot taken from the news release from Airsoft SoftwairAs already said, Designer 7.0 is a massive update that boasts lots of new features and improvements over the previous version. We do not want to bore you, so here are just some of them:
* Use the full power of Hollywood 10 which was specifically designed for Designer 7!
* Color emojis, CJK text and complex scripts are now supported (using the Pangomonium plugin)
* Multi-selection support for pages and objects in all listviews and the thumbnail viewer
* Operations can be applied to multiple objects and pages at the same time
* Now uses the Hollywood 10 graphics engine for maximum power!
* Objects can be combined into groups
* Many new action events to work with object groups
* Unlimited undo and redo levels
* Executables can also be exported for macOS and Linux arm64
* Support for different font engines
* Graphics can be exported as palette images
* Radically reduced memory footprint, often reduced to just 25% of Designer 6.0!
* Configurable dynamic memory modes
* Custom character spacing support
* Several new example projects are included
* Full support for Hollywood 10’s plugin interface
* Lots of other new features, optimizations and bug fixesThanks to Hollywood, all multimedia applications created using Hollywood Designer can be exported as stand-alone executables for the following systems: AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4, WarpOS, MorphOS, AROS, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. This is a feature that is totally unique in the Amiga world! We would like to emphasize that it is not only suited for personal use, but also for professional commercial customers. Ferrule Media, for instance, have created an info channel containing over 2000 unique slides in a single project with Hollywood Designer. Hollywood Designer was designed to handle these huge projects efficiently so that they can run 24 hours a day and 7 days a week without any visible memory fragmentation! Ferrule Media’s info channel, created with Hollywood Designer, is running in dental clinics all over Norway.
Note that Hollywood Designer is no longer limited to “just” being an authoring software, it can now also be used as a flexible graphics editor because it supports many features of modern graphics editors like multiple layers with over 30 filter effects, vector graphics, image import/export in many formats, and text including support complex scripts such as CJK or right-to-left text and color emojis.
Hollywood Designer 7.0 is available as a CD and a download version. There are native versions of the program for AmigaOS 3 (m68k), WarpOS (hybrid m68k/ppc), MorphOS (ppc), AmigaOS 4 (ppc), and AROS (x86). If you already own a previous version of Hollywood Designer, you can buy a discounted upgrade version. People who bought Hollywood Designer 6.0 in 2024 can request a free upgrade. Also note that Hollywood Designer 7.0 has been specially crafted for Hollywood 10, so Hollywood 10 is absolutely required by Designer 7.0.
Please consider buying Hollywood Designer 7.0 to show your support for our massive Amiga development efforts. Power up your Amiga system with Hollywood 10 & Hollywood Designer 7 and order now!
Libpng is the official PNG reference library. It supports almost all PNG features, is extensible, and has been extensively tested for over 28 years. Version 1.6.43 is now available on OS4Depot. For more information and source code, check http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/libpng.html.

Thumbnail Maker is an Arexx script for ArtEffect 4 from Haage & Partner. It uses ffmpeg to generate a series of frames from a selected video and paste them onto a canvas to create a sequence of thumbnails. Data about the video is printed at the top, along with a user-definable string. Version 1.04 contains the following changes:
This is version 1.04.
*New feature*:
You can optionally burn the timecode into each frame. Thanks to Mick JT for helping me figure out the syntax of this command. Time is in the format hh:mm:ss and will appear in the top left hand corner. You can select either white or black text. Note that the non-altivec version of ffmpeg 6.01 has a bug and won’t work with this feature. If you have this version installed you won’t see the option to apply timecode. I recommend updating to the latest version of ffmpeg.
*Bug fix*:
The default file extensions have been overhauled, so by default more video file types are displayed for selection.
*Improvement*:
ffmpeg now does the scaling instead of Art Effect. This makes assembling the final image much faster.
*Improvement*:
The script now looks for ffmpeg in appdir not c, so you can keep your ffmpeg executable anywhere.
*Improvement*:
A few minor code polishes…

AmigaOS 4 News – March 2024
Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂
It is, like it usually is at the end of a month, time for the AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup!
March proved to be a very active month in the community. We got new hardware, a commercial software release, and many updates to everything from applications to games. Thanks to all the developers, users, and enthusiasts who keep the platform alive!
On the personal side, March was also the month I got myself a new AmigaOS 4 system based around the Sam460LE by ACube Systems. Have since then expanded it with an optical drive, as well as added extra storage space.
Without further ado, here is the AmigaOS 4 news from March 2024. 🙂
Software News
Some of you might remember that I did an interview with Steffen Häuser, a.k.a. TheMagicSN, a few months ago about the game he has ported for Hyperion Entertainment to AmigaOS 4, namely Heretic II.
I’m happy to report that the boxed version of the game is now available for purchase from Alinea Computer in Germany! RetroPassion in the United Kingdom had it in stock, but it is currently only available on backorder.

- Multiplayer Support (internet or LAN up to 32 players)
- Formidable Enemy AI
- Outstanding player controls (mouse, keyboard, joystick) using AmigaInput
- Expandable with new mission packs like Quake
My original plan was to show you photos of the box, screenshots from the game, and to tell you more about it, but unfortunately, my copy of Heretic II is still in transit. I got a message that it was going to be delivered soon, but suddenly the tracking showed that it was back at customs here in Norway again. Due to Easter, it has gotten further delayed. I’m guessing it will reach me sometime in the middle of April. I will write a review of the game later on when I’ve received it and have had time to play through it. I’m looking forward to that! 🙂
Speaking of Heretic II, Steffen Häuser recently ported THF 3.0 to AmigaOS 4. This is one of the biggest multiplayer mods for the game. You need Heretic II for AmigaOS 4 to run it. This opens the door to some fun multiplayer action for Amigans! You can download it from here.
Unofficial Polish and Russian localization for Heretic II have also been released.
On March 2nd, DRIDI released version 2.9z5Final of the Arabic Console Device. According to the author, this version contains a lot of fixes. Later in March, on the 31st, another update was published, 2.9z6Final. Please visit OS4Depot to read more about the changes.
René W. Olsen has released version 1.29 of the Amiga VNC Server. Changes from the previous versions are as follows:

On AmigaOS 4 you can emulate many different computers and consoles. One of the systems you can enjoy is the Sega Mega Drive / Sega Genesis. This platform is especially interesting since it contains a vast amount of high-quality games. Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Earthworm Jim, Ecco the Dolphin, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 2, and many more, are examples of this. Thanks to work done by Marek “smarkusg” Glogowski (porting) and Javier de las Rivas (GUI), we can enjoy version 1.33 of the DGen emulator on our computers. 🙂
Here is a video created by Rene Engel a.k.a. Maijestro showing DGen running on QEMU (Pegasos II):
Prince of Persia is a classic game first released in 1989 by Broderbund. It was developed by Jordan Mechner, who was the author of another blast from the past, namely Karateka. Prince of Persia came out for many different platforms, including the Amiga. I can remember briefly playing it on an Amiga 500, but nothing more than that. It is a famous game though, well-known in the history of video games.
Screenshot by PuniLet us fast-forward to 2024. An open-source port of Prince of Persia, based on the disassembly of the DOS version, extended with new features, is available to AmigaOS 4 users. The developer behind the original port is NagyD. Responsible for the AmigaOS 4 port is Javier de las Rivas.
Screenshot by PuniOn March 18th, version 1.23 of the AmigaOS 4 port was released. You can download it from OS4Depot:
http://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=game/adventure/sdlpop.lha
The open-source variant has many added features compared to the original, such as recording your game. You can find a complete list via the link below:
https://github.com/NagyD/SDLPoP/tree/amigaos4
Screenshot by PuniThe game ran fine under emulation of AmigaOS 4.1 FE Classic, so it should run on most, if not all AmigaOS 4 setups. 🙂

Marek “smarkusg” Glogowski has released Polish catalog files for AmiUpdate, while Marko Raina has uploaded Finnish ones.
It is no secret that many of us played with ProTracker on our Amiga computers back in the day. Countless music modules have been composed since the tracker was first released. Even I (in co-operation with another demoscener) created a tune called TveitaDowntown back in 2000. That song is not very good, but we had fun making it. 😉
Screenshot by PuniPT2 Clone is a ProTracker 2 clone created for Windows, MacOS, and Linux by 8bitbubsy. The goal is to make a highly accurate clone of the classic ProTracker 2.3D. It is, as seen above, available also for AmigaOS 4. This is thanks to Smarkusg who ported it to our platform.
Screenshot by PuniYou can read more about it on GitHub:

Here are the changes since the last version:
– Fullscreen mode code has been refactored, as I apparently had coded it the wrong way. “Stretched” mode always fills the whole screen now too, and other issues may have been fixed as well. The “INTEGERSCALING” option in protracker.ini has been removed as it wouldn’t work with the new code anyway.
– Updated SDL to v2.30.1You can download it from OS4Depot:

Now he is back again and inviting us to check out a new project he is working on. The game is called Los Malditos, and it is a free adaption of the mythical books from Timun Mas from the 1980s and 1990s related to Dungeons & Dragons, which the author was a fan of. The demo of the game is now available for download at OS4Depot.

Another addictive Match-3 diamond/jewels style game with three great game modes. These are Puzzle Quest, Time Challenge, and Survival.
In this contest we play Time Challenge:
Match 3 or more identical jewels, be fast to get more time to play, because the time goes by. The game is over if the time is up.
The goal is to score as many points as possible. Please post a screenshot of your score in the appropriate forum thread to participate. It is still some time left to play. 😉
Here is the link to the competition thread over at Amigans.net.

Videos
Rene Engel a.k.a. Maijestro has created many videos this month. One of these shows the the new Heretic II for AmigaOS 4 from Hyperion Entertainment running on QEMU (Pegasos II):
McFly PPC uploaded several videos in March. One of these shows Gorky 17 running on his AmigaOne X5000:
Never mind what I wrote about videos of the A1222+ above. It turns out that Mister JBAM has released videos of him unboxing the A1222+ and installing it.
Mister JBAM made a video of playing Tower57, too.
The videos are in French, but you can turn on auto-generated subtitles in English.
George Sokianos, a.k.a. Walkero, did a live stream of him installing and playing Heretic II for AmigaOS 4.1. Unfortunately, he had difficulties with his capture card, so he could not record much of the gameplay. It was still a good stream, and he provided helpful information concerning the game. The port of the game, TheMagicSN, was present in the chat.
Until next time

Versus is a demoscene chart and disk magazine created by two demo groups, Nukleus and Void, for Amiga OCS/ECS and AmigaOS 4. Nine issues have been released so far. The last one, Versus #9, came out for Classic Amiga and AmigaOS 4 in 2019.
Versus #10 is on the way, and voting has officially opened!
Cast your vote for your favorite demos, intros, programmers, musicians, and so forth! 🙂 The more votes collected, the more accurate the charts will be. Thank you in advance for your support!
You can find the Online votesheet here:
https://www.nukleus.nu/VersusVote.php
It is worth mentioning that you are not required to fill out all the fields.
We are very grateful for every vote we receive, and we really hope you’ll spend a few minutes filling out the votesheet as soon as possible. 🙂
Some of you might have noticed that I’ve not published much on Gaming on AmigaOS 4 recently. AmigaOS 4 related posts have been published on the Old School Game Blog instead. The reason is that I’ve decided to continue Gaming on AmigaOS 4 on Old School Game Blog from now on. I’m involved in many projects, such as those with Void (Amiga demo group), so it easier to blog in one place. 🙂
The AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup will continue, but on Old School Game Blog instead. I’ve added an AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup section to the site. Here is the link. I hope you’ll continue reading my blog posts about AmigaOS 4 and Amiga in general at Old School Game Blog.

The price for a motherboard without RAM is 1,199 EUR. 4 GB of RAM costs 39,99 EUR extra. A full system will set you back 1,599 EUR. The final price depends on taxes, fees, and shipping. You can not order either one from the shop yet, but according to AmigaKit, they should be available soon. Here is a quote from AmigaKit dated February 12th:
“No, AmigaKit FR is getting ready for general sale. First stock arriving is for Early Adopters very shortly. A date for non-early adopters will be added to the webstore in the next week or so.”
Source: https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=9258&start=60
A date has not been added yet (today it is February 29th). March is just around the corner. When the A1222+ was announced (again) in October, one was told that the boards would ship in October, or November at the latest. This information can be found at Discord, as well as on Amigans.net. Several months have passed since then, and as far as I know, no one has received the A1222+ yet. The Facebook page of AAA Technology has not been updated since October, so it is not easy for customers or potential buyers to know what is going on. I really hope the A1222+ will be released soon though, and I feel for all those who are waiting and waiting for it to arrive. I’m sure it will be a fun system to experiment with!
A preview of the March/April issue of Amiga Future has been published on the official website of the magazine. Here is the link.
The Lost C has published a video on YouTube showing the new HunoPPC port of WipeOut for AmigaOS 4.1 in action. He shows it running a Sam440, Sam460, and an Amiga 1200 with BlizzardPPC and BVision. The video is in Italian.
He is not the only one who has created a video of Wipeout. So has McFlyPPC. His video shows it running on an AmigaOne X5000.
Rene Engel has uploaded a video showing version 1.33 of the Dgen SEGA Mega Drive emulator running with QEMU / Pegasos 2.
Muf has created a review of the Velocap HDR Tbox Deluxe, which you can see here. It is in Polish.
In February we’ve been playing a game by Entwickler-X called Balance Blox on Amigans.net.
BillE is currently in the lead with a whopping 124,200 points! There’s still a little bit of time left if you want to try to beat the score and become this month’s game champion over at Amigans.net.

AmigaOS 4 News – January 2024
Hi everyone,
Welcome to the first AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup of 2024!
2023 was a busy year in the world of AmigaOS 4. Perhaps not in terms of an official AmigaOS 4 update, but the community and its developers delivered on many fronts.
On the hardware side, the A1222+ was finally put into production, while the Sam460LE shipped to globally. You could even buy the X5040 from Amedia Computers in France, with a more modern graphics card and drivers.
As for software, we were lucky to get plenty of games to try. Examples are Fallout, Super Mario 64, AstroMenace, BreakHack, and Nanosaur. We must not forget ScummVM being maintained and updated by Raziel, which opens the world to many excellent graphical adventures.
Applications? Rave from Trixie got improved, IBrowse got updated, jPV^RNO delivered RNOXfer, RNOTunes, and much more.
If you want to have a deeper look into what 2023 brought us, I recommend checking out the previous monthly roundups, which are available here.

Woof is a continuation of Lee Killough’s port of Doom. Changes since 1.397 are as follows:
- Added versioning to SDL window
- Transient assigns of ETC and USR to avoid requests caused due to soft-openal if ETC/USR are not assigned (caused due to soft-openal) (reported by jabierdlr)
Here is a video from Demo Tube Net showing the game running on an AmigaOne X5000:
Some may wonder why they chose the name Woof. I did include information about this last month, but here it is again for new readers. This is an explanation taken from the GitHub page of the project:
“If you turn the Doom logo upside down it reads “Wood” – which would be a pretty stupid name for a source port. “Woof” is just as stupid a name for a source port, but at least it contains a reference to dogs – and dogs are the Marine’s Best Friend.”
AmiArcadia by James Jacobs has been updated to version 30.8. Here is a summary of the of the changes:
- AY-3-8500: added 1976 version option
- Assembler: added INCBIN directive

This month I updated my blog post called “Where to buy AmigaOS 4 compatible systems?” with new information from Amiga shops. If you are looking to purchase a computer compatible with AmigaOS 4.1, I recommend having a look. 🙂 The latest news I found was that GGS Data in Sweden will be selling the A1222+.
Screenshot by PuniDuring January, we’ve been playing the game Virus Killer over at Amigans.net. It was developed by Parallel Realities and ported to AmigaOS 4 by Cyborg and ToAks in 2005.
Most games have a story, and Virus Killer is not an exception. According to the readme file, the story is about viruses invading your desktop through various security holes. With the help of your trusty mouse, you must shoot the viruses before they destroy your precious files. Some will steal files from your directories and bring them to their security holes, while others will feast upon them! The aim is to survive as long as possible until all your files are lost. To accomplish this, you must move the crosshair around the screen, blasting away and picking up items to help you (freeze time, more power, etc.) survive.
You can find the contest and the current highscore list here.
The AmigaWARP organization in Croatia has once again created a nice calendar for the year 2024. 🙂 They are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year! Congratulations! The calendar can be downloaded from their website.

AmigaOS 4 News – December 2023
Hi,
Many thanks for visiting my blog! 🙂
As I write this (December 30th), we’re approaching the end of 2023. It’s been a year with a lot of activity in the AmigaOS 4 community. Some people seems to claim the AmigaOS 4 scene is dead and that not much is happening. Is that so?
If we take a look back at everything that has happened this year, I don’t think one can say that the platform is dead. We’ve got three different hardware options in the form of the X5040, the Sam460LE, and now the A1222 Plus. We’ve had plenty of software developments, as well as many ports of games and programs. Not forgetting all the progress that is being made with the Enhancer package from A-EON Technology!
Last, but not least, think about QEMU and all the extra firepower it is bringing us! We see new users coming on stage, helping with porting software, testing software, developing, participating in discussions, and much more. I for one am positive about what 2024 can bring, that’s for sure. 😉
One would think that December would be a bit more quiet during the rest of the year, but this month has brought us a lot of interesting stuff. 🙂
I’d like to take the opportunity to send out a big thank you to all developers, users, enthusiasts, gamers, retailers and others in the AmigaOS 4 community for a great 2023! Happy new year everyone!
Without further ado, let’s get on with this month’s monthly roundup!

Screenshot by PuniIt’s been quite a while since I last played the classic game Rick Dangerous from Core Design. I remember it very well from my Amiga 500 days in the 1990s but have only played it from time to time since then. If you’d like to enjoy Rick Dangerous on AmigaOS 4, I’ve got some good news. An SDL 2 port of the game was ported in December!
Screenshot by PuniThis clone of Rick Dangerous is called xrick, made by carefully reverse-engineering the PC and Atari version of the game, and re-coding it in C. The author of xrick is Stephan aka ZpqrtBnk. The original author is Simon Phipps. The people responsible for porting it to AmigaOS 4 are Javier (Jabirulo) and Marek (smarkusg). Thanks so much, guys!
If you want to have a look for yourself, you can download it here. Read more about it on GitHub. There is also a thread on Amigans.net with discussions about the port. Hope you’ll check out the game and that you will enjoy it! It is certainly a blast from the past.

On December 22nd, a new version (3.0a) of IBrowse was released. At the same time, AmiSSL 5.13 became available.
Here is the full news from the official IBrowse website:
Merry Christmas and Season’s Greetings to all our IBrowse 3 users. We hope you’ve been just as happy as the IBrowse 3 release last month as we have been. Although things have gone pretty smoothly, there were a couple of issues that slipped through the net, which we have remedied today with the release of IBrowse 3.0a. This includes one critical fix for a bug in the HTTP(S) module which could trash memory, resulting in either instant crashes or seemingly random crashes at a later stage, sometimes in different applications. For this reason, we are recommending that all users update their IBrowse 3.0 installation using the supplied installation utility. See the History log page for full details of the changes in this update.

Screenshot by PuniA new version (1.5) of the video player MPlayer has been released! MPlayer can play most standard video formats out of the box, as well as almost all others with the help of external codecs.
Here is the news by Samo79 as posted on Amigans.net:
After several months of development we are pleased to present the first public release candidate of MPlayer 1.5 … the initial aim of the project was to try implementing support for va.library (VAAPI) providing hardware video decoding and of possibly reunify all the main features of the previous scattered releases, from the ancient one from Andrea, up to the most recent versions from LiveForIt and MickJT.
As often happens in projects of this size, things then evolved a little differently, the various features were now unified, making our version certainly the most complete (yes, no more different versions to download to choose which one to use based on your needs) but the video acceleration project has currently been postponed for a later date!
However, this gave us time to implement a lot of new features and solve a large number of bugs that had accumulated over the years, as well as obviously allowing us to merge with the latest SVN version of the main branch of MPlayer and FFmpeg 6.0.
There are many people to thank, Javier de las Rivas for the bulk of the work on the code and for his enormous patience in solving a massive number of bugs, Marek for managing the collection of new changes, as well as for having implemented some code himself (I am thinking of the iconification function for example), to MickJT for several fixes and obviously for providing us his updated code, to Joerg for his newest Amiga video driver based to p96, to Guillaume Boesel for the implementation of the MenuClass, for the AISS icons in the menus and other small graphically appealing things, to Mason for the iconsets and the banner and finally in small way also me to managed the project by put the various piece toghter, making small corrections here and there, minor changes to the source, added new video/audio formats into the EXPATTERN and finally the re-implementation of the AmiUpdate support. I learned a lot from you all, thank you guys!
The archive is currently available in the upload section of os4depot, download it while it’s hot!

Screenshot by PuniTrixie has released a new version of the AmigaOS 4 port of Protrekkr, a powerful multi-platform music tracker created by Franck “hitchhikr” Charlet.
Please read on for more information from Trixie. The source is Amigans.net.
As a Christmas present to all AmigaOS4 users, I have just released a new OS4 port of Protrekkr, a powerful multi-platform music tracker written by Franck ‘hitchhikr’ Charlet. With its superb features that include software synthesis, Roland TB-303 emulation, and numerous effects, Protrekkr is by far the most capable tracker ever available on an Amiga platform. The release comes with almost 50 example songs (modules) to show what the program can do.
This new AmigaOS4 port is special in that it allows further configuration via tooltypes in the program icon. These additional settings allow tweaking the GUI to make Protrekker more usable in large-screen resolutions.
Find the program on OS4depot.net (currently in the Uploads queue) and enjoy!

Screenshot lent from https://www.amigans.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3205AAMP offers a development environment on your Amiga, with which you can create and test your own web projects. Similar to the well-known XAMPP package for Linux and Windows, it contains the HTTP (web) server “Apache” with compiled-in support for the scripting language “PHP” (version 8.0.28 and 5.2.10) and the database server “MySQL” version 5.5.10. AAMP is not only interesting for developers. This means that web applications can also be run locally on the Amiga. These are e.g. the database administrator “phpMyAdmin” or the image manager “Coppermine” – just to name a few.
You can create your own tools with the included “php” interpreter. “PHP” is easy to learn and with its extensions a powerful language.
Last but not least, data can be managed with the “MySQL” database server, which can then also be accessed via the network. External programs (e.g. IODBC) can use this server as a database backend.
New in AAMP 2.1:
- The “AAMP-Control” tool is now available for the central administration of all servers and settings. In addition to Apache and MySQL, it can also be used to manage the PHP development server and the Subversion server “svnserve”. The scripts “Start_AAMP.bat” and “Stop_AAMP.bat” are now obsolete and no longer included.
- All other start and stop scripts are still included, but the use of “AAMP-Control” is recommended.
- Update of the Apache web server from version 2.2.11 to version 2.2.34.
- The configuration of the Apache SSL module is now complete and working. So that clients can work with it without problems, there is a selection of CA root certificate collections in the Contrib folder, which also contains the server’s certificate. Simply replace the required file of the client or browser.
- The package now also includes a complete package of “phpMyAdmin” in version 5.0.4. This has been patched for better compatibility with PHP 8 and is already preconfigured. The package will be installed automatically during the installation of AAMP.
- Optimized autostart at system start or when starting “AAMP-Control”.
- Update of the CA root certificates (Mozilla certificates as of 20.11.2023).
- The default WebDAV directory is now “AAMP:Apache/uploads” and no longer “AAMP:Apache/htdocs/dav”.
- The Subversion package has been recompiled using the new Apache 2.2.34 libraries.
- Various bug fixes.
George Sokianos a.k.a. Walkero has released a new version of aiostreams, as well as a website connected to the project. You can read the full news from him here:
For more than 3 years, I devoted a lot of time working on the aiostreams package for the AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS, making online video and audio streaming easier for the user, especially for websites that are resources hungry like YouTube and Twitch. Those websites need a lot of power and a strong web browser to work, which plenty of times the AmigaNG systems do not have. So I created a few Python scripts, which can also be used on other systems like Linux and MacOS.
The last couple of days, I was working to resolve some issues and make the YouTube support more reliable. As a companion to these scripts, I set up an online website at https://aiostreams.amiga-projects.net, which is useful to find content. For some time now, there is support for discovering streams from the Twitch.tv website, but I always wanted to add more content in there.
So today I uploaded the newer version, which brings the YouTube content to the users who can find the trending videos based on 4 different categories (Music, News, Gaming and Movies) and specific regions, search for channels and videos based on a description, and find the videos of a specific channel.
The website works as a proxy to YouTube and when something is available on YouTube it will be available on mine as well. To retrieve the lists and videos information, I am using Invidious API which is also an alternative frontend of YouTube. Of course, my website targets browsers who do not support CSS and the JS support is limited. That’s why there is no Javascript code included, no CSS is needed and that makes it work perfectly on IBrowse. Which also means there is no tracking of your activity at all.
If you use the video URLs that you can see in the https://aiostreams.amiga-projects.net with the aiostreams scripts, you can have video playing back on your system in seconds.
I also released a new version of aiostreams scripts, with some fixes and changes. You can find the new version at my GitHub repository and soon on the Aminet and the OS4Depot.
Hope these new features will help every user to have a great time with their Amiga.
Excellent work by George Sokianos! 🙂
Woof is a continuation of Lee Killough’s port of Doom. Changes since 1.397 are as follows:
- Added versioning to the SDL window
- Transient assigns of ETC and USR to avoid requests caused due to soft-openal if ETC/USR are not assigned (caused due to soft-openal) (reported by jabierdlr)
Some may wonder why they chose the name Woof. Here is an explanation taken from the GitHub page of the project:
“If you turn the Doom logo upside down it reads “Wood” – which would be a pretty stupid name for a source port. “Woof” is just as stupid a name for a source port, but at least it contains a reference to dogs – and dogs are the Marine’s Best Friend.”
NetSurf – Screenshot by PuniNetSurf 3.11 has been released! According to amiga-news.de, the following changes were made specifically for the Amiga port:
- Added page theme option.
- Improved handling of bitmaps.
- Improved and optimized handling of Unicode.
- Stability improvements.
It’s great to see that the development of NetSurf continues. Have had a lot of use for this browser on the Sam Flex. It was fast, but also quite compatible with many websites out there. Very happy to see a new version out in the wild!
Lent from https://ko-fi.com/post/Lite-XL-2-1-2r1-released-B0B1SQ17XOn December 29th, George Sokianos a.k.a. Walkero released version 2.1.2 of Lite XL. He stated that it was released for every system by the official development team as they usually do after Christmas. Sokianos therefore thought it was the perfect time for a new AmigaOS 4 version as well. You can find more information about the newest Lite XL on his Ko-fi page:
https://ko-fi.com/post/Lite-XL-2-1-2r1-released-B0B1SQ17X
In a video on YouTube, Entwickler-X showed upcoming games for AmigaOS 4 running on an AmigaOne X1000. The first one was Radon Break, which belongs to the bat’n’ball genre. The other one was M.A.C.E. Remastered (Warp3D Nova). Both games look brilliant, so looking forward to playing these when they are released! You can watch the video below:
In the second half of December, QEMU 8.2.0 became available. This release contains 3200+ commits from 238 authors. With QEMU you can emulate a full computer, such as an AmigaOne XE, Sam460ex or a Pegasos II. To be able to do this, you’ll need the official AmigaOS 4 for AmigaOne, Sam460ex, or Pegasos II. Behind the Amiga support is Zoltan Balaton, and you can find more information about his BBoot bootloader (for running AmigaOne) and QEMU project here. Speaking of which, a new version of the BBoot (version 0.5) was released on December 3rd. Maijestro, who has his own YouTube channel and does a lot of testing with QEMU, has released a video of it in action.
ScummVM 2.8.0 is out for AmigaOS 4! Thanks to Raziel for his work porting it! It contains a lot of improvements and support for new games, such as Muppet Treasure Island, The Dark Eye, Might and Magic Book One, Dark Side, and The Vampire Diaries. A full list of changes is available here:
http://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=game/misc/scummvm.lha
Looking forward to test some of the new games listed! 🙂
That was all the software news for this time. Let us move on to the next section!

Based on curl, hURL supports an incredibly wide range of transfer protocols, e.g., DICT, FILE, FTP, FTPS, Gopher, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, LDAPS, POP3, POP3S, RTMP, RTSP, SCP, SFTP, SMB, SMBS, SMTP, SMTPS, Telnet and TFTP. Furthermore, hURL supports SSL certificates, HTTP POST, HTTP PUT, FTP uploading, HTTP form based upload, proxies, HTTP/2, cookies, user+password authentication (Basic, Plain, Digest, CRAM-MD5, NTLM, Negotiate and Kerberos), file transfer resume, proxy tunneling and more. It really is the ultimate data transfer engine for Hollywood, leaving nothing to be desired.”
https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=library/hollywood/hurl.lha
iConecta
This is a small and handy utility that can be used to test your Internet connection. It is being developed by Juan Carlos Herrán Martín.
For the new version, the author has removed the Miniwood system due to visual problems with the clock.
https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=network/misc/iconecta.lha

“This driver was developed with Claude AI (Anthropic) acting as the primary engineer – writing all C code, designing the architecture, debugging hardware-level issues, and navigating the AmigaOS 4.1 SDK. It is a
practical demonstration of AI-assisted low-level systems programming on a niche, legacy platform with minimal AI training data available.”https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=driver/storage/virtioscsi.lha
WipeOut-RE Fantomas Edition
HunoPPC announced the final version of this game:
“Hello Amigans, Here is the final version of WipeOut-RE Fontômas edition Normal and SPE version.
This version speeds up the engine by 2.5x and you will be able to take advantage of shaders with effects (CRT, etc.).
On A1222 + RX480 8GO (native screen) = 200 fps 70% of CPU
On X5000 + RX560 3GO (native screen) = 400 fps 40% of CPU
This version is in Beta on my FTP server (named: wipegame_egl).
This version is hybrid (Normal and SPE) and uses the new version of EGL_Wrap (W.I.P. not distributed).
The final version should be released soon, and you will be able to fully enjoy it on your NG machines.
Thank you for your support and patience, as this is a colossal undertaking, especially since I am the only one writing the code and fixing the problems. Have a good day!”

Three months of work to achieve this result in my free time
These two versions will be officially released this weekend and will be available for download on my website.”https://ko-fi.com/post/WipeOut-RE-Shaders-and-WipeOut-RE-Shaders-Fantomas-D1D21YJIW6
