De son côté, @gdesgranges y voit un possible basculement de la gouvernance du Registre Internet régional vers un modèle dans lequel les États auraient plus de pouvoir.

Quand #Afrinic tente de reprendre les adresses IP tenues par les brokers (dont Cloud Innovation), le conflit externe éclate. La justice mauricienne bloque les comptes d'Afrinic, qui ne peut plus se défendre.

Dernières nouvelles : les élections au CA (Afrinic n'avait plus de CA depuis des années) d'il y a deux semaines semblent avoir été correctes. Reste au nouveau CA (très proche de #SmartAfrica) à bosser.

Vers 2021, les prix des adresses IPv4 décollent. Les brokers (revendeurs d'adresses IP, l'équivalent IP des domaineurs du monde des noms de domaine) prennent de plus en plus de pouvoir, et notent qu'#Afrinic est le seul registre d'adresses IP à avoir des réserves.

Et c'est au moment où le conflit s'aggrave dans #Afrinic (avant même l'offensive des brokers). Première grosse affaire de corruption interne.

Naissance douloureuse d'#Afrinic : conflits anglos/francos, Afrique du Sud vs. les autres, blancs vs. noirs, arabo-berbères contre subsahariens.

Peut de moyens, peu de soutien, l'organisation commence difficilement.

Big move in the #AFRINIC saga from an unexpected source - the USA!

The US Ambassador to Mauritius gave an interview in which he expressed support for AFRINIC and multi-stakeholder internet governance, and concern that some are making it hard for the goverment of Mauritius to act in support of AFRINIC.

IME Ambassadors don't use that sort of language casually, or wade into obscure areas like internet governance on a whim. AFRINIC's antagonists may have earned themselves a foe they cannot easily challenge

#AFRINIC voter designation and board nominations close in 2 and 5 days respectively.

There are restrictions on who can nominate, who can be a nominee, and of course who can vote. Encourage your AFRINIC region members and colleagues to participate.
