#Parents and #teachers often forget that intellectual maturity does NOT equal #emotional #maturity with highly and profoundly #gifted kids. Instead of pathologizing normal #childhood behavior, the adults in the room need to re-evaluate their own expectations and provide support (if even necessary) to kids who are just being kids.

What's your favorite digital tool that showcases interconnected biographies? I'm working on a #history project for my #Quaker Meeting and am using Google Earth to take a tour of historic Meetinghouses. I want to add hyperlinks to the descriptions that take you to a separate project that indexes short bios of prominent historical Quakers from the area. Neither #Prezi nor #Wakelet feel right. Am grateful for any suggestions you may have. Thx

@Animystic The other point to keep in mind is that #FAPE and an #IEP do not guarantee that kids will learn and make progress in their #education in a #PublicSchool. #SCOTUS weighed in and said that schools are required to do more than just the minimum for kids with #SpecialNeeds but they still fail. There's no injustice in parents wanting their kids to learn after public schools have failed them.

@Wtime90 @amirnathoo I wholeheartedly agree with you about the lack of reliable #homeschool data. I've been apart of the community since 1999, so I've read my fair share. It's a bit of a hobby of mine to call out #BadResearch, especially as it relates to homeschooling. My concern is more about #EdPolicy makers believing what they read without really understanding how biased most of the data is.

Outschool also reported that #Florida has 338,000 #homeschoolers. Not sure where they got that number, but FL's DoE reports just over 152,000 kids educated at home by their parents during the 2021-22 school year. /4

In Sept 2022, #Outschool announced findings from a small scale survey they conducted about #homeschooling. This is a🧵about a company valued at $3 billion reporting bad research.
Outschool’s survey “interviewed” 662 families using SurveyMonkey. The press release offers nothing terribly groundshaking, though the header “New reasons families are choosing to #homeschool is a bit misleading. /1 #Education #SchoolChoice #EdPolicy #Edutooter

Masto peeps: Can you help me find #K12 #education #reporters that focus on #SchoolChoice, #EdPolicy, and special #student populations? I've already used PressCheck. TIA.

@watzon I've consulted with 3 startups who've wanted to market educational technology to #homeschool families. From what you've described, it sounds like you're looking to create something that blends #OutSchool with what #TeachersPayTeachers already offer. I think the "credentialing" part will be critical to your plan. Just because a parent has successfully homeschooled their own kids doesn't mean they know how to write curriculum or teach an online class.

@lussenpop Bottom line: The rights of #SpEd #students are often violated by schools that demand behavioral compliance. BIPs are ignored while schools don't provide an engaging #learning environment or the supports or interventions these kids need. Then the schools play charades with #ManifestationDetermination mtgs and blame the kids. Most parents don't fully understand their rights under #IDEA and it just becomes a vicious cycle of state sanctioned #abuse. #edutooter /2
