Another important lesson for the USA election.
Lula, Brazil's Iconic Working-Class President, Wins Historic Fourth Term.
The lesson is described in the article:
- better-than-expected turnout has powered Lula to victory.
----
Remember that: every vote counts, YOURS AS WELL.

What a warning to read now about the crash of 1929.
And what a bright light to see what happened when the voters decided to vote for their own future instead of that of the rich.
It describes that the ultimate power is in the hands of the voters.

I’m genuinely interested in the state of the rivalry between FreeBSD and NetBSD in 2026. I ask because:
- I see much more about NetBSD on Mastodon these days
- I just did initial installs of both for some testing I’m doing. FreeBSD’s install and initial package setup felt much more sensible and friendly than NetBSD’s.
The latter makes me wonder if there’s something I’m missing about the former.

Of course: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_WebbonThe " #ChristianNationalists " are not #Christian in any sense of the word as I understand it.
But very consistent with the Crusades and "Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius (Kill them. For the Lord knows who are His.)"

I understand and share the joy of dunking on Trump, but please don’t do it this way:
- IQ is largely a nonsense metric
- Given its context and history, using IQ as an insult is playing with eugenicist fire
- Purporting to quantify “intelligence” at all is wildly problematic (we don’t even have a good definition of the thing we’re measuring here, folks)
- Purporting to quantify intelligence of someone at a •distance• is even wildly-er problematic
- Measuring human intelligence with an LLM is so off the problematic charts I don’t even know where to start
Find a better insult. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel with that guy. (“Like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory” was a pretty damn good one.) And if you (rightly) want to puncture his wild lies about his superintelligence, focus on his •lying• and not his IQ. Please and thank you.

2/ Husted, Ramaswamy, and the Ohio GOP candidates on the ticket, bus tour only drew 200 people at a rally in Eastern #Cincinnati. That is with most of the candidates on the ballot appearing. Should have been a blowout crowd. Two years ago, this would have been thousands. #USPol #Ohio

I actually managed the last 4 measures of Beauty & the Beast 'reasonably'. This tune is full of surprises but it also has many repeats, which makes the whole quite easy, compared to You Raise Me Up.

“It is a version of America frozen in time within Manzanar’s fences & here on its baseball field,” [Kwong] said, still in his team uniform. “When we run its dusty base paths & sit in its sunbaked bleachers, for a few hours the past is unfrozen. And in that thaw, we may face the contradictions embedded in America’s legacy: our welcoming arms & our bigoted rejections, our highest aspirations & our lowest debasements, our cruelty & our kindness, our generosity & our greed.”

Soon the primary job of speculative fiction will be to just write stories about decent people doing bland things that are completely sensible.

Windy up on #Dartmoor (with Dave B); the highlight was a single male Ring Ouzel found in the heart of a berry-laden tree.
Also my first Fieldfare of the winter along with Mistle and Song Thrush and a pair of Bullfinch were highlights. #UKBirding #Devon #nature #wildlife #BirdsOfMastodon

For people in Ohio considering to vote for Ramaswamy, this free link.
Ask yourself if you want to have such a person as the governor for your children. As somebody they have to look up to.

COTA Grand Prix
I have to start with my usual complaint: why are there three races in the USA? I know the answer is money, but it still annoys me that a country with little support for F1 gets 3 races while others with better circuits and bigger fan bases have to share calendar spots or don't get one at all. It also bugs me that this venue is Circuit of the Americas - there are older and better circuits in the Americas, but never let it be said that the USA lacks…
