Actually, this is an extension of the Bixsby Text Call service, which is an interesting way of screening suspected spammer calls. It deliberately answers your phone using a robot voice and asks the caller to state their business etc. The responses are converted to text for you to read, and you can type responses in, which are read out aloud by the "robot voice" to the caller. The idea being this will cause many spam callers to abandon the call, and shields you from having to actually engage with spam callers on a personal level.
Of course, this Text Call service can also be used in situations for any call where you can't speak yourself (very loud surroundings, or possibly when in a theatre, etc).
This new development extends that functionality to now using AI to clone your own voice. How well, or fast, this actually works has not been tested outside of South Korea yet. But for suspected spam calls, I'd prefer actually that they speak to a robot voice.
Some caveats here: this feature is only currently available in Korean as the Bixby Custom Voice Creator app for a small number of Samsung handsets (the new Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra).

After upgrading to #ubuntu23.04 I was able to remove all my old venvs and would have a lot to manage if it weren't for #pipx. `pipx reinstall-all` Fixes-Everything™. It even says where command are pointing to some other file than it has setup for you (including broken module callers). Quite awesome. Moving from #python 3.10 to 3.11 has been easier than any move i've ever done before. Thanks pipx!

• "Process servers" who call, threatening to show up at your workplace, demanding payment over the phone.
• Text messages from unknown sources.
• Callers demanding payment for debt over a decade old.

The UK's Metropolitan Police will begin sending text messages to suspected #fraud crime victims in the UK to encourage them to register with Action Fraud, following a breakthrough in a case involving the now-closed website #iSpoof.
The Met says there may be as many as 200,000 people who received phone calls from #scammers using the iSpoof service, which permitted callers to send forged Caller ID data. The scammers posed as employees of major banks in the UK.
Police will send the messages to about 70,000 people who spent at least one minute on the phone calls with the scammers. They surmise this group was at greater risk of having been victimized by the scammers. More than 100 people have been arrested so far in the wide ranging investigation.

@billyjoebowers I don’t return calls. Full stop. If you NEED to speak with me I will answer. Voicemail is stupid: it favors the lazy. Text as a replacement is nonsensical.
Try to remember 1972. No answer? ‘I’ll call back.’ No answering machine? No voicemail put the onus on the sender—not the recipient—of the call.
Ignoring insignificant callers ensures the value of the response.

Beware of the fake ‘FedEx courier’ call. It’s the latest cyber scam
Just now one of my friend got this call.
They employ Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems that convincingly simulate automated calls from FedEx and fake customs and Mumbai police officials. The callers weave a tale of a stuck consignment being thoroughly checked at the Mumbai airport customs, leading to the discovery of narcotics hidden among the items. To avoid legal troubles, they coerce their victims into paying a hefty ‘fine’ ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
This is a sophisticated operation.
Following the initial call, victims receive a Skype call from an individual dressed as a police officer. This fake officer requests sensitive information, such as the victim's Aadhaar and PAN card details. The scam takes a sinister turn as the victim is informed that multiple bank accounts are linked to their Aadhaar number and these accounts are involved in money laundering activities. This claim amplifies the sense of urgency and impending legal trouble.
Don't fall for this scam. End the call. Educate your family and friends.

Tonight's phone call to Doug Ford was to express my displeasure at the lack of transparency with regard to Greenbelt issues and that a Freedom of Information request by theToronto Star on his phone calls during the Education Workers' strike revealed that no phone calls were made or received during that two-week period when he said he was constantly on the phone. It is theorized that he is making use of his personal phone which makes calls/callers impossible to track through a Freedom of Information request. There is a reason for this process to be used that Doug Ford is bypassing. Yeah, but they wish Democrats weren't. They hate that Dems are protecting abortion rights and LGBTQ in their states. That Democrats have cancelled tens of millions in student loans, pulled out of Afghanistan, ended the drone war, finally gone after spam/scam callers, overdraft fees, put Black people (especially women) in positions of power (most especially the Judiciary), and strengthened unions. Off the top of my head.

"A reported cyberattack disrupted 9-1-1 service at dispatch centers in the Highland Lakes and across Central Texas for over five hours on Sunday, Aug. 4. Emergency calls were rerouted during the incident and full service restored by Sunday evening.
Marble Falls, Burnet County, and Llano County dispatch centers were among those impacted by a large-scale “robocall attack” on the AT&T network between 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. During this timeframe, 9-1-1 callers and dispatchers were unable to hear each other clearly, addresses were not displayed on 9-1-1 calls, and, in some cases, 9-1-1 calls weren’t going through.
“(The disruption) was created by a ‘directed denial of service’,” explained Burnet County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mike Sorenson to DailyTrib.com. “It was an attack on 9-1-1 (service) with a large number of robocalls.”"
There's no mention in the news story about any attempt to extort the system.
