"As members of the Black and Latino LGBTQ and transgender and other communities come to the nation’s capital for World Pride in the coming days, many are under siege from multiple directions thanks to their multiple identities. They will hold individualized programs and celebrations that blend into World Pride.

"Their mutual jeopardy will be a unifying theme. The celebrations, music, food, parades, plays and parties will unfold against a backdrop of human rights and political strategizing and, in some cases, discussions about how to survive in a climate that contains many people who do not want them around.

“I always tell folks that DC was the perfect place to have World Pride,” Hutton said. ”We have so many different identity prides here in D.C., from Black Pride to Trans Pride to API Pride, Latinx Pride, Military Pride, Women’s Pride, Silver Pride, we have so many different groups of people that have their own pride celebration.”

I'm normally skeptical of and reticent about praising policing milestones. but as #bicyclists and #pedestrians have be pleading for relief since the excesses of the pandemic...

    yeah, police!
    better late than never.

  3. @OregonLive Should we care? Oregon joined an east coast league. I don't think the university gives a damn about the #PNW. Not sure the PNW should give a damn about them or any of the other schools bolting the PAC12 for money. As their chartered flights spew CO2 across the nation, I'm not sure this private school should be given free advertising by news media anymore, but you do you. My sympathies are with #OSU and #WSU, not wealthy #UniversityOfOregon.

By midday Monday, in a happy ending for the neighbors, the graphic decorations were gone and the potholes were filled in, Portland Bureau of Transportation Communications Director Hannah Schafer said. Schafer conceded that the 21st Avenue potholes were prioritized for cleanup because of the graphic drawings.

  7. @OregonLive It's very expensive, but the least impactful action for this expansion should be through undergrounding. Something that isn't mentioned here is the threat from winter storm damages such as ice to these facilities, like we saw in early 2024 that led to a presidential disaster declaration.

More and more extreme climactic events are making overhead electrical infrastructure prohibitively expensive to build and maintain. From what I've seen within disaster recovery across Western States during the last 10 years, undergrounding is the future of resilient power systems. Undergounding also means no, or very few trees need to be cut.
