  1. there is a quiet shared-use path near the #ICA supermarket in #älmhult, #småland. someone felt it was important to put up a large red warning about the dangerous #bicyclists there. ☠️🚲⚠️

    🪧 a sign reading:
    WARNING FOR CYCLISTS!
BE CAREFUL WHEN CROSSING THE CYCLE WAY

  2. "The department [Department of #Transportation / #DOT] recently sent letters to local governments in at least six states — Alabama, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts and New Mexico — informing them it was withdrawing money awarded under the $1.1 trillion #infrastructure law former President [POTUS 46] signed in 2021.”

We were personally especially sorry to read about #Illinois #Route66 withdrawal, in general vicinity of our birthplace, and where we have many relatives and friends. "McLean County in central Illinois got a similar letter recalling federal funding awarded last year to help design a final 9-mile segment of a #bike and #pedestrian trail along Route 66. County engineer Jerry Stokes said the project wouldn’t affect #MotorVehicle travel but would promote safety by getting #bicyclists and #pedestrians off the road.”

  7. @OregonLive

I'm normally skeptical of and reticent about praising policing milestones. but as #bicyclists and #pedestrians have be pleading for relief since the excesses of the pandemic...

    yeah, police!
    better late than never.

  8. On my way down the oliverbahn this afternoon I fell in with a large group of #bicyclists and only learned after it was the legendary #fancywomenbikeride. Apparently if you live here and travel reasonably (ie, on a bike) you can't help but participate in the #yegbike community!

  9. Have any #Massachusetts #bicyclists figured out how to file for commuter benefits on their MA tax return?

Does it just go in with EZPass and Tolls? The official tax-filing software for the Commonwealth doesn't seem to have a space for it.

  10. Loud vehicles cause harm to #children, #pedestrians and #bicyclists on a daily basis, yet #TinaKotek and her administration look the other way out of fear of Harley owners, who can "customize" without regard to those exposed. Nevermind the #tunercars and #4x4s.

There are vehicles, with no #DEQ inspection, yet they abuse those condemned to use public roads with egregious, otherwise illegal in a *workplace*, noise levels.

#Noise level laws flaunted via exception:

    It's an 'in-use' vehicle.

  11. In the "Well-Wasn't-That-A-Waste-Of-Time" Department... 😏
    DC’s Kinda-Sorta Ban of Right Turns on Red Began January 1;
The measure applies at half the District's intersections, and no, there's no map of them.

  12. Hey #BikeTooter don't do these things on multi-use paths. Y'all know how scary car and truck drivers are when they do the same thing to #bicyclists .

  15. Carol and Jaime live in San Jose, California where they are active members of Silicon Valley Rotary. We met them while walking the trails at a Asilomar State Beach today. Jaime, a California resident for over 30 years, is a native of Colombia. 🇨🇴 They met through their shared dedication to service to others, via Rotary.

  16. 🎂Happy birthday to Liz, biking 30 miles to celebrate their 30th birthday today! 3️⃣0️⃣🎉🎈Liz and their friend Lizzy had biked from Marina, California to another #Monterey Peninsula city, #Pacific Grove, when we met them while we were walking at Asilomar State Beach. We🎵sang Liz a favorite birthday song traditional in many #Waldorf schools.

  17. #bicyclists who use tubeless tires - how many holes that would have otherwise have been flats do you currently have sealant seeping out of? (I'm 21+ currently and am trying to see if i'm an outlier)

  19. I took the long road home from Yr Wyddfa. It was a sort of 'Amalfi coast of Wales': sweeping bendy roads along the coast. No pictures.

Made my own dinner and the dogs kept close guard nothing unforseen should befall my dinner.

Anyway, motocampwales.co.uk/ is the absolute coolest and chillest place to stay in mid-Wales. Not just for #motorcycle riders, but #hikers and #bicyclists too.

  20. ⬆️

One final thought (well, maybe 2), but does anyone ever notices that the word “crash” is almost never in the reporting, and 2) when these things are reported, they never mention that there are #DRIVERS in the #car; but sure, #bicyclists are keeling over dead.

It’s really weird how the #NYTimes can shift-blame everything in such a short blurb.

  21. This article about a DC delivery bicyclist is so up-lifting. But, it’s also infuriating to know that in the US, this is what you have to do to pay your medical bills. Gift article in WaPo

  22. #Bicyclists: If you are forced to ride with cars, *always* take the entire lane! Do not risk being doored. The drivers behind you are more likely to see and avoid you than are the parked motorists opening their doors into you.

So the keyword one has to watch for in dystopic technologist's publications is "#v2x" : « “vehicle to everything” (V2X) technology that, on the face of it, promises enhanced safety on the roads for #pedestrians and #cyclists… connected cars will know exactly where on the #highway #beacon-equipped #bicyclists are located, and smashes will therefore be avoided.
The more likely version…: Only the beacon-equipped will be spotted »

  24. So far, it seems to me the number of Canadians, Ph.D.s, and people who bicycle (plus ham radio folks) is of MUCH higher density out here on the Fediverse than other social platforms I've ever been on. Maybe just the initial networks I have plugged into, given how discovery works here (though, I'm all for it...). Not present in the same numbers: celebrities and actors (probably because this medium does not promote you specifically for your celebrity/viralness). #canadian #phd #bicyclists

  25. re: twitter.com/cyclesixmile/statu

The microplastic and pollution from the 𝙩𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙨 will kill communities and ecosystems, like with every other car.

There is no escaping the illogic of 2,000+ pound vehicles designed to carry 200 pounds of people. (The vehicle seen below will weigh 5000 lbs)

Coming this week from FRONTLINE and @ProPublica: "explosive emails detailing how #trucking industry officials pressured Department of Transportation regulators to alter a report that recommended a nationwide mandate for guards specifically designed to protect pedestrians, #bicyclists and #motorcyclists."

  27. Santa Barbara / State Street Promenade Survey Results

Our assumptions about large retail and office space as the foundation of our downtowns are being shattered. The level of interest and concern about #downtown #SantaBarbara’s health is demonstrated by the nearly 5,000 survey responses the AIA has received and the 150+ design professionals who will volunteer their time this month and next to 'Repurpose, Reimagine, Reuse, and Reenvision Downtown State Street,'” said Architect Dennis Thompson

Over 93% of respondents supported the idea of #permanently #closing part of #StateStreet to #vehicular traffic in one form or another.

Results were closer when it included cyclists with 56% approving the promenade for #bicyclists as well as pedestrians and 35% favoring only pedestrian use.

The top four categories for long-term activities on State Street included dining, music, art, and places to sit.

Perhaps the most debated issue of downtown development is the incorporation of high-density #housing.

63% of respondents approved the idea of more housing in the downtown State Street area. The majority of support was geared toward small one to two-bedroom rental units capped at no higher than three stories in height.

The majority of respondents stated they would need a car if living downtown and would pay extra for a parking space
