#Pride #WorldPride Rally and March gains energy from trans contingent, rain can't stop it
On the 8th of June, WorldPride 2025 wrapped up with a protest rally and march. This gained considerable energy from the National Trans Visibilty March that fed into it.
Near the start as rain fell came chants of "these colors don't run" reminding MAGA meatheads that we in the LGBTQ+ community are prepared to fight for our right to exist.
Speakers condemned the sewer of hate pouring from the mouth and pen of Donald Trump and his minions.
The march that followed the rally pushed right through the rain all the way from the Lincoln Memorial to 3ed st near the US Capitol before dispersing into the festival grounds on Penn Ave. The Festival looked nearly empty at that time. Since rain did not hamper the march, this was probably the fallout from putting the festival in a fenced area accessable only by bag search checkpoints.
As the march ended the sound of trudging boots and shoes became obvious as the rain soaked the gravel of trudging boots the way things are going in the US.

Tesla Takedown Gives Nod To PrideArlington, VA—-On World Pride Day the Tesla Takedown boycott line spun resistance twirling rainbow parasols, wearing rainbow lei necklaces, and dancing to a resistance line-up of music over two synchronized speakers. If not for the commitment of the core team of rotating organizers and the continued zeal of the line, it’s likely the most successful corporate brand takedown in terms of diminished Tesla stock value and brand damage, would have fizzled out months ago. But it lives because the organizers and citizens persist.
The Pride theme was promised and delivered in lively color—as members of DC’s own grassroots collective Rainbow Defense Coalition joined forces with grassroots organizers of Third Act to bring the boycott back to Tesla on South Glebe Road for its 18th consecutive weekend. And the boycott line is not close to getting monotonous as evidenced in the weekly video report below.

As someone who is a part of the industry, I certainly *get* the celebration of it as is demonstrated by #tonyawards
But based on the events cancelled in Washington at the Kennedy Centre that were part of #worldpride and the actions taking place right now across the country - as per #LAPD, #ice #nationalguard, among others - I feel a celebration is tone deaf.
Dim #broadway lights and rebroadcast ‘Good Night and Good Luck’ via all those networks that were to show The Tonys.

Chaos in Dupont Circle: Two stabbings, a shooting, and a stampedeEarly evening on June 7 after WorldPride, the crowd had reclaimed Dupont Circle. It was crowded but there were still a lot of cops. Then two people were stabbed and one was shot in a possibly unrelated incident.
Cops again seized Dupont Circle, which changed hands for the 3ed time in the weekend. Shortly after I arrived on the scene, I heard a loud BOOM, more like a heavy firework than a pistol, but sound can do strange things. This may or may not have been the shooting itself. Either way, the crowd that had just been pushed out of the park stampeded, fortunately not very far. I didn't see anyone get trampled at least.
Later that night, the cops had closed what looked like a 1 block radius around Dupont Circle. An incredible number of cops were on the scene,seemed like way too many for two stabbed and one shot. The cops simply do NOT care about the public to that extent. This in turn raises questions about their real intent.

Many anti-Trump/anti-Fascist messages at WorldPride in DCThe WorldPride parade in DC was far more political and far less corporate than any prior Pride march I have seen in DC. Probably due to Trump's anti-DEI crusade, most corporations stayed away. This limited their ability to exploit Pride to sell their goods and capitalism itself.
On the other hand, there were a lot of anti-Trump messages, including even a call to deport Trump to CECOT in the place of the Gay Venezualan sent there by "mistake." Near the head of the parade was "Operation Resist" in opposition to Trump's efforts to witch-hunt LGBTQ folks out of the military. This sort of thing shows the potential for splits in the military itelf that could limit Trump's efforts to play auto-coup games and could be decisive if the US blows apart.

Key line from the Post report is as follows:
"On Thursday evening, Vincent Slatt — a Dupont Circle advisory neighborhood commissioner who chairs the ANC Rainbow Caucus — received an email from the National Park Service chief of staff who oversees the National Mall and Memorial Parks, which said U.S. Park Police “is continuing its determination for closure.”
This naked act of raw aggression could lead to some serious trouble over the weekend. Most of the attendees at Pride come for (and gear up for) a party not a battle but provoking over 100,000 people by closing the park in their faces is not a smart move.
Remember Stonewall was a riot.
If their is fighting and people get hurt, this is on the Trump, the US Park Police, and Mayor Bowser.
Keep in mind, any crowd capable of pulling down a 10,000 pound plus Confederate statue of stone or bronze can easily pull down these "no-climb" fences set only on their own bases or in Jersey Walls. If the cops respond with tear gas and rubber bullets fired at WorldPride, this will be another blow to the US and to all international events hosted in the US.

“I always tell folks that DC was the perfect place to have World Pride,” Hutton said. ”We have so many different identity prides here in D.C., from Black Pride to Trans Pride to API Pride, Latinx Pride, Military Pride, Women’s Pride, Silver Pride, we have so many different groups of people that have their own pride celebration.”
