  5. Talking Stories - Encyclopedia of #TraditionalEcologicalKnowledge

“it is not possible to divorce the ecological aspects of a tradition from the religious, the aesthetic, or the social. For example, among Native American people of the Columbia Plateau . . . moral precepts are inculcated by means of a body of ‘Coyote stories’. A Columbia Plateau elder may know more than 60 such stories. . . . Children learn the moral precepts that will guide them in their social and ecological relationships by listening to their elders tell these stories. Thus, religion, art and ecology are one.”

    —Hunn (1993:14)

    Compiled by #UniversityOfOregon

"Compared to Western environmental science, traditional ecological knowledge is more holistic and expansive. It includes teachings that help individuals understand their role within the local ecosystem, and precepts that guide their interactions with its human and non-human denizens. Thus, in addition to natural history, traditional ecological knowledge includes governance, philosophy, and religion, as well as the expressive media used to transmit this information."

  10. If you have Instagram…

My daughter produced this ad. It’s her first as a solo producer for her agency.

Needless to say, I’m a proud papa.

  11. If you want to know something about one of the great #running meccas, the #documentary below is a good start. I have a lot of personal connections to much of the video's content going back to the mid-sixties, so it means a lot to me.

#Eugene #Oregon is a quirky, unique town, and I love it.

  12. @kfitz I am thrilled that you are taking on this role, and am grateful that you will steward the work we’ve done at @msucal. As I begin my tenure at the #UniversityOfOregon, I look forward to our ongoing work together to transform #HigherEd through the #CoalitionForAFutureAcademy: cplong.org/2024/01/coalition-f

  13. @OregonLive Should we care? Oregon joined an east coast league. I don't think the university gives a damn about the #PNW. Not sure the PNW should give a damn about them or any of the other schools bolting the PAC12 for money. As their chartered flights spew CO2 across the nation, I'm not sure this private school should be given free advertising by news media anymore, but you do you. My sympathies are with #OSU and #WSU, not wealthy #UniversityOfOregon.

  14. Fedifolk! The students at University of Oregon have a venmo if you want to aid your comrades from beyond the campus! SJPUO is also documenting their encampment on Instagram, if you want to stay up to date with what's going down on campus. Same with Reed, Lewis & Clark, and PSU! Educate, unite, support!

  15. Seen this morning at the University of Oregon on-campus convenience store. Our long national nightmare is over.

  16. Hey heads! I’m taking my high school senior to #eugene #oregon in a couple of weeks to check out #universityoforegon. He’s an accepted student! Please hit me with recs on:
    Restaurants
    Music clubs/scene
    Record stores
    Other heady stuff

  17. Mighty Oregon is the college fight song for the University of Oregon Ducks, and is played at Oregon football and Oregon basketball games.

It is our newest addition to our college fight song collection.

  18. Well… I’m cleaning out some old boxes and it feels like I’m doing an archaeological dig. I just came across this buried artifact from 1993 – my first master’s thesis. This spring it will be 30 years since I defended it before the committee. And yes, Kinko’s!

  19. It's going to be rough, but the decision made by the #UniversityOfOregon , #PSU, and #OSU to not renew Elsevier subscriptions is the right one. Spending a quarter of your total annual library budget on a single subscription is ridiculous.

  20. More experiments on the electrification of #coffee during grinding are planned for next month. This washed Honduran from Heart Coffee in #Portland will feature prominently.

But, for now, it's nice to just sit and get to know Manuel Puig.

  21. A bit about me. I'm on the third pivot of my career. I started out working in international development (Peace Corps, then DC-based consulting). Then I went local and worked for a city-county unified government (Athens-Clarke Co, GA). 12 years ago I started my first faculty job at #ClevelandState. I moved to #UniversityofOregon in 2016. I study local government management. Lots of #coproduction scholarship and some #crowdsourcing. And finally some #publicbudgeting stuff too.
