We finally got our new skim coat!
Pic one is almost a week ago; 9th Ave was shut down from 48(?) down to 42nd, at first I thought to force traffic out to 11th Ave (southbound) because of the bottleneck on 9th at 42nd (cuz of pipes going under 42nd at 8th, 9th, and 10th)!
But it was to toughen up our surface and prep the underlayer. Behold before and after pics.

They are talking about #potholes on #MattAllwright today... plenty of council bashing... and talk about funding... but nobody ever mentions... that lots of cars are ginormous these days... and perhaps the owners of these cars... should be paying towards the additional damage to roads they cause...

so-called #AI #cameras (more likely simple pattern matching rather than #LLM) are deployed in #Sussex in SE #England to catch #drivers who are #speeding, not wearing #seatbelts and/or using #mobilePhones at the wheel (interestingly these ones are not attempting to detect #DUI compared to others tried out in SW England and already widely used in #Australia , maybe because this isn't that easy to do (especially when sober drivers may be swerving to avoid #potholes)

Got genuine sympathy for this lad and his friends, even if it turns out he may have been going faster than prudent for road conditions (which include #potholes) - seems they were all genuinely unlucky and had the road been in better condition this #RTC may not have even happened - I can guess at how he was thinking, he didn't want to fuck up his alloys or suspension having just got the car, and overcooked it trying to avoid something bad on road surface...

I hope for the sake of this lads family that suspension mods to #VWPolo had been notified to insurers (its been lowered, I compared it to my own first #car which is a similar model) , and there isn't too much data on the ECU or its difficult to capture as car has sat at bottom of River Nene for a few days (although memory chips can survive this!) as #insurers are *really* going to be digging deep into reducing their liabilities for this #crash, with a dead passenger and other injuries/trauma to the survivors.
Daily Mail managed to doorstep witnesses/survivors and gleaned from them he was not habitually a bad/reckless driver and likely overcorrected steering trying to avoid #potholes - I 100% believe this, knowing what rural roads are like round here!

These are just some of the examples of potholes in neighbouring streets (one a campaign photo). We used to laugh a bit at people complaining about potholes but they are now everywhere, really big, and cause a lot of damage. I encounter them mainly as a cyclist: really dangerous for us, too! Anyway, i am kind of interested as a very “English” manifestation of conjunction of climate change, infrastructure failures, and behaviour (heavier vehicles). #TheCrumble -
#ClimateDiary Through canvassing #Potholes are pretty prominent in my mind atm. For those of you not in the UK: potholes have become a focal point in UK local, even national politics. A bit of a cliche etc but they are, indeed, terrible - and getting much worse due to climate change (will add some of my own pictures below). Would be interesting to know how bad they are in other countries?

I love motorbikes!
I no longer ride one.
The #potholes in the #uk are deeper than Trumps depravity or #ukpolitics corruption.
It's one thing to get a flat on your car.
Being thrown from a bike so so much worse.
I know the worlds f💖💖ked and this seems like an odd time to bring this up.

Things I didn't know about when I was only a naive German driving on German roads: Pothole season!
"Drivers should maintain steady control and hold the steering wheel firmly. If a strong impact is followed by vibration or the car pulling to one side, it is advisable to stop safely and inspect the vehicle."
I drive a lot more carefully since I've seen an entire front wheel, suspension, McPherson strut and swing arm lay on the side of the road, torn out of a car just outside Vilnius one winter 😬
And avoid puddles. You don't know if they're shallow or hide a hole half a meter deep.

I went to the #Suffolk #Council website myself to report a particularly cursed pair of #potholes I'd spent the last week dodging (you have to slow down and either move more to the left or even drive in the crown of the road, which is of course only best done when there is not busy traffic)
There were already about 10 reports of the potholes, of which half have been acknowledged by SCC (with a claim the work will be done in 10 days, although this is rarely the case), the rest are still red flagged.
So if this data is being fed straight to London in its raw form, its hardly surprising SCC get a "red" status on the report, even if they *are* fixing the actual pothole (as they are not responding to citizens nor clearing duplicate reports, so look worse than they actually are)

Via the 311 app, I've reported more than 40 potholes since January 1... the best is when they ask for a photo!
FYI 75% of these potholes in CDN-NDG existed BEFORE Winter proper... the borough just lets the snow fill them and freeze over. LOL

just remembered how last year a work colleague in #Felixstowe needed two new #tyres on the fleet car she was using - I recommended the tyre garage near the library and the second hand bookshop as it was part of same group (Hadleigh Tyres) I'd used for last 6 years with good results.
She got the tyres, and submitted invoice for the expense claim. I was initially a bit confused, as the address given was 200 metres away from where I remember the tyre garage being.
Turns out that Hadleigh Tyres do indeed have *two* branches in Felixstowe, not at all far away from one another and *both* are busy and doing well (an indictment on the state of the roads in that town)
