  1. #SolarPump Update - making progress with rebuilding the #rainwater pump, I’ve had to replace the electronics (and managed to reduce the number of parts). I’ve also changed the enclosure and am using a wooden bird box (but will have to block off the opening as no space for birds - they’ve got lots of other boxes nearby).
I think the reason the last enclosure flooded was due to a pump connector leak so I’ve positioned the pump at the bottom and built a small shelf for the electronics.

  3. It’s nice that the evenings are light enough so that when I get back from work I have time to do some watering. And now I don’t have to lug up the water due to my #solarpump that makes it even more pleasurable.

Now if the risk of frost could go way that would be great, thanks

  14. I've finally built out a small solar-powered #meshtastic box so I can mount it up in a tree in my yard to get the most range out of it.

There's a perfect dead branch that isn't shaded by leaves that I've got my eye on.

I don't have roof access, so this is the best I can do, but my flat is in a relatively high point in the city already.

Even just with this indoors and at ground level I'm getting ~3 KM of range through the #Oxford city center, so my hope with properly mounting it is that I can get all the way over to the #EOF #hackerspace.

  15. The #sun today imaged using a small #solar #telescope. Even if this image was taken through some hazy clouds, I think it turned out well. There are a few active regions visible, and several #prominences.

  16. Businesses close and families struggle through Davis power outages

Even relatively small solar panel and battery setups can be helpful in power outage emergencies. If you can afford them (and prices have gone way down in the last decade while efficiency has gone up), add them to your emergency supplies.

  18. In 🇩🇪 Germany thousands of renters are now hanging small solar panels on their #balconies (called #balkonkraftwerk) to plug into a wall outlet and #power a bit of their home ⚡ 🌿. It’s helping cut energy bills ✂️, boost access to clean power and alleviate pressure on the grid ☀️.

  23. The Rings of (2060) #Chiron - Evidence of an Evolving System: iopscience.iop.org/article/10. -> "Chiron thus appears as the fourth small solar system body known for hosting a ring system. Comparisons with previous occultation events that have occurred since 1994 show that these features are not permanent. With these observations, we may witness for the first time the ongoing formation and evolution of a ring system."

  24. #Scavenger episode N.
Dropped some bags of clothes at the local waste facility.
Found some interesting items in a dumpster with electronics:
    - 2 DC fans, 24V, 10W,
    - 4 small solar cells with light sensors and batteries from the garden lamps,
    - 1 small solar panel rated 6V, 1W.
    After cleaning I tested them.
Both fans work (also at 12V). The solar panel gives 12V at full sun.
Haven't tested small cells yet, but at least one charges builtin battery well. It shines when it's dark.
    Satisfied.
