  1. Fedi! Lookie! A shiny thing arrived!

This is a Diamond Mako, a clone of the #Psion Revo Plus.

I'm more of a Series 3mx man, and I've never loved the Revo keyboard. But it does have a certain charm to it, feeling a lot closer in format to the Series 3 than the Series 5. It probably has the best implementation of EPOC32 before Symbian came along, and it also has a great screen.

This one has been refurbished and had the batteries replaced by @smallsolar (not an easy job). I already had a sturdy case, so I'll be keeping it in that.

  2. Sooo I got so many amazing responses to the #stealthsolar question, new ideas/concepts and examples it has inspired me to get on with the website, I'm using the #hugo book theme and have managed to write the introduction. The goal will be to have sections on each location (shed, wall, trailer etc) and then also sections with some simple guides.

I haven't really written this way for years so it's a bit of a new experience and it got me thinking, if the website writing goes well could there be a book in it? I appreciate I'm thinking way ahead but I think it's the sort of book I would buy.

  7. I've started work on my #stealthsolar page, I'll host it on Squeak (it's a very low power, low resource web host that I run - check it out squeak.solarcene.community).

In preparation I've upgrade #Hugo to 0.160 as wanted to use the nice 'book' theme (github.com/alex-shpak/hugo-book).

If you'd like to have a small website hosted just get in touch, there is still space on Squeak!

  8. Do you have an example of stealth solar?

I've been thinking a lot about 'stealth solar' where people attach #solarpanels to places in a subtle way to capture the sun's energy. It might be stealth as there are strict rules or just want to keep it low key. #balconysolar is sort of stealth gone mainstream.

With cheaper MPPT devices you can now accept slightly poorer efficiency due to placement and with microinverters don't need to make long strings. I particularly think that there is no point having a solar panel in storage, best get it out there and generating even if it's in a temporary place!

So I thought I'd start a small website that documents different stealth setups, so if you have cheeky solar panels and would be willing to share a little info (but not too much if it would get you in trouble) get in touch.

  9. I've built a webring for solar powered websites and hosted it on squeak! - squeak.solarcene.community/web

and to make it even better @alipunk has designed a 88x31 graphic - here is a big version

Get in touch if you'd like to join.

  15. #CrossBorderRail #NightJet

I've got myself confused and would be grateful for reassurance, my family are going from Salzburg to Paris on the nightjet, we booked 4 tickets for October (2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant with seat). We selected a 4 berth couchette and have been assigned seats 91-94, I had read that usually they skip the middle berth so I'm now a little worried we haven't booked out the whole compartment and instead might be sharing in a 6 berth.

    I think I'm over worrying...

  16. A slightly awkward subject, while I don't see myself as a prepper some of the #solarpunk elements make you think about the what ifs. I was thinking recently that if there was an issue where I lived (middle of the UK - climate, war, totalitarian government) and my family and I had to migrate north we don't actually know anyone in Scotland who we could aim for, there isn't someone who you'd go towards who would be the safe haven.

There is a wonderful community on mastodon of #solarpunks and i hope it would be possible to reach out to someone at the time (if the system was online) but mastodon itself isn't really secure enough to share those details. Also how do you reduce the risk of scams/traps/abuse.

I guess Im thought experimenting the real life challenges that the millions of refugees experience everyday and that this single element must be terrifying and I fully realise how privileged I am to only have to think about it.

  17. Previously I had 3 eufy smart plugs controlling some lamps in our house, the app has become unreliable so I've replaced them with Tapo ones (which are much more hackable).

I've therefore been having fun trying to unpick how the plugs work, not yet completely worked it all out but will write it up soon.

I'd be interested if anyone else either has eufy smart plugs or have an interest in understanding how they work and perhaps how they could be made more 'independent' 😜

  18. #weekendProject
I’ve been insulating a room in my garage where all my projects are (e.g solar system and mastodon server). In the past it got a little damp and I’ve got a grand idea to have a dehumidifier at some point. First I thought I better measure the humidity and temperature- went to #ebay and got a super cheap little meter for ~£3 - but why get 1 when you can get 2 and try and hack it up.
    So time to go digging…

  21. Was lange währt, wird endlich gut.

    6x 410 Wp-Panel
    1x Victron SmartSolar 150/60
    1x Pylontech US3000C
    1x Victron Orion 48/48-2,5
    1x Victron Orion 48/48-6
    1x SUN-Wechselrichter
    1x Victron CerboGX
