IMSS separa a directivos tras muerte de seis bebés en Jalisco
El IMSS anunció una auditoría clínica independiente y la separación temporal de dos directivos tras los fallecimientos de seis recién nacidos en una unidad neonatal del Centro Médico Nacional de Occidente, en Guadalajara.

El Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) realizará una auditoría clínica independiente para esclarecer los fallecimientos de seis recién nacidos en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales (UCIN) del Hospital de Gineco Obstetricia del Centro Médico Nacional de Occidente (CMNO), en Guadalajara, Jalisco.
El director general del IMSS, Zoé Robledo, informó que durante el año se detectaron y notificaron brotes de infecciones hospitalarias en esa unidad. En seis bebés que fallecieron, una de esas infecciones aparece entre las causas de muerte, de acuerdo con la información presentada por el funcionario.
El caso también es investigado por la Fiscalía General de la República (FGR), luego de que tres familias presentaran una denuncia. El IMSS informó que respetará la investigación y colaborará con las autoridades para esclarecer lo ocurrido.
Auditoría independiente revisará cada caso
La primera medida será una Auditoría Clínica Colegiada Independiente, en la que participarán especialistas externos al IMSS en Neonatología, Infectología y Epidemiología.
La revisión deberá determinar si existió una infección asociada con la atención médica, si ésta causó o contribuyó al fallecimiento de los recién nacidos y si hubo fallas que pudieron evitarse.
El IMSS informó que no intervendrá en las conclusiones de la auditoría ni podrá modificarlas. Los resultados serán comunicados primero a las familias de los bebés fallecidos.
La investigación buscará establecer las circunstancias particulares de cada caso y determinar si existe una relación entre las infecciones detectadas en la unidad y los fallecimientos registrados.
Separan temporalmente a dos directivos
Mientras se desarrolla la auditoría, serán separados temporalmente de sus cargos el director del Centro Médico Nacional de Occidente y el jefe de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales.
Robledo explicó que la medida busca garantizar que la revisión pueda realizarse con libertad y sin interferencias. El IMSS señaló que el proceso será independiente y transparente.
La separación temporal no determina responsabilidades, ya que las conclusiones sobre las causas de los fallecimientos y posibles fallas deberán establecerse mediante las investigaciones correspondientes.
Profundizarán investigación sobre las infecciones
Como tercera acción, el IMSS profundizará la investigación epidemiológica para identificar el origen de los brotes y establecer su relación con los casos registrados.
Los microorganismos identificados serán analizados por el Instituto de Diagnóstico y Referencia Epidemiológicos (InDRE), con el propósito de conocer su origen y determinar si existe relación con los fallecimientos.
El instituto también informó que cada familia contará con una persona responsable del IMSS para acompañar directamente el proceso y dar seguimiento a cada caso. –sn–
