🧵 Concerns about the latest troubling failures of Boeing’s MAX planes and their continued hubris - a textbook example of failure to apply opti-pessimistic thinking at scale.
A Boeing 737-MAX-9 had a piece of fuselage (a door plug) blow off in flight yesterday causing an emergency landing and minor injuries (a miracle). But was it really random? A recent Seattle Times article caught my eye with a related story.

This phenomenon makes me SO mad, and it feels SO ableist.
How do you think it feels every time I have to figure out whether it matters that my 10 surgeries don’t fit in the one line you gave me?
Or that my rare genetic conditions don’t fit in that tiny “other” line?
Or checking boxes for symptoms I know you’ll ignore because I deal with chronic illness?
I optimize for large medical systems to minimize paperwork.

On July 14, 2023, Delta Air Lines broke the law when delaying DL 652 from MCO to LAX 2x in 2 cities during a staff shortage diversion without providing adequate food and water during 2hr+ delays, and they discriminated against my disability. Here's the story.

Worked on an Excel timeline of events and I’m near 200 lines and we only just landed in Atlanta 🙃 I want to make sure I write my article from the facts. Most lines in the first day are backed up by a timestamp or screenshot in a support text or app. That’s on top of the Tweets. I believe this is what’s commonly referred to as “having the receipts”. #DisabilityMastodon #travel #delta #discrimination

I’ve seen this mentality inside companies too - where a business unit will be dead set on launching a new app even though the company has an established app installed on hundreds of thousands or millions of devices.
“Why not just integrate with the company app?”
“Oh, we want to launch a brand.”
The customer is NOWHERE in that scenario.
In my book #DesignBeyondDevices we talk about relationships - like company - customer. They often see you as ONE unit. #uxdesign

I got to do a little bit of improv with Wayne Brady in a workshop he taught with Dan O’Connor yesterday. That was… pretty great. If you’d told the version of me that started in improv 1999 at the while watching Whose Line that she’d walk into an improv class with Wayne and an accomplished improv author and introduce herself as a fellow #TheatreSports professional decades later - and be taken completely seriously - she couldn’t have comprehended it. #acting #improv
