the very same day i actually figured how to submit one to #coreboot, struggled against gerrit bravely and won
even though at the same time i learned the openid provider i'm using is going away in two weeks, another one gone out of service 2 years ago, openid itself appears obsolete, and other options are github and google lolis this actually easy and they were right that cannibal corpse, drugs and leaded solder turn you into a simpleton

@jedie I guess this depends on the country. I can buy direct from Protectli Canada.
How is this related to smartphones ? Of course there are proprietary blobs in Wifi and other chips, not sure why this means more support needed. Can you elaborate ?
Protectli will also load #Coreboot for you on their routers, very useful too.

Finally updated #coreboot on my @starlabssystems #starbook #starbookvi. I did update from 9.02 to 25.10, so first time since ~2yrs.
I feel like i am using a new laptop. Fan is not kicking that often, is very silent now. Laptop wakes up faster. Also my chinese mobile 14" monitor finally works via USB-C (it was working before and then stopped for some reason).
I am still a couple of updates behind but 25.10 is the newest at LFVS -

This is such a good thread, but of all the replies and quote toots, no one has mentioned #coreboot #libreboot
Of course there are very old and limited number of boards that can run these, and i'm wondering if this could give a boost to more boards being supported.

🖥️ Oh, wow! Someone actually took the time to port #Coreboot to a #ThinkPad #X270, proving that you too can waste hours of your life for an unnoticeable boot time #improvement. 🕒🔍 Meanwhile, the rest of us are just trying to choose between 50 shades of syntax highlighting themes, because that's what really matters, right? 🎨👨💻

Have you found a curated list of newer laptops that use #CoreBoot ? -
@tuxedocomputers geht es da um ein paar monate oder länger? Finde nur einen artikel, dass ihr das schon seit 2019 vor habt... :D
Kann man #coreboot selber auf euren labtops installieren? @c_th1 -
Oh look, another keyboard hero waxing poetic about Open Source and firewalls like it's 1995 🌐💾. Because we all needed another reminder that proprietary software is basically Skynet in disguise 🤖🔍. Meanwhile, #Coreboot is still not fixing your WiFi, but don't let that stop the diatribe! 😂

Oh, here's another thrilling tale of "I tried #Coreboot and now my life is a tech comedy. 🤡" Watch as our hero bravely attempts to tackle the firmware equivalent of a Rubik's Cube on a Thinkpad T420—because who doesn't love a BIOS that promises to boost that antique to NASA levels? 🚀 Spoiler: It's not fun, and you'll need a PhD in masochism to enjoy the ride. 😂

My motherboard is an MSI Z690-A, but the newer MSI Z790-P is already supported, along with a bunch of laptop and server boards:

Don’t Support the Coreboot Project
—MALIBAL「 Instead of support and collaboration, we faced inflated prices, poor communication, and what we perceived as incompetence from coreboot leaders and consultants. Our efforts ultimately fell apart, not due to technical challenges, but because of what we see as unethical practices within the coreboot community 」

🔋 Disabling the Intel Management Engine (ME) leads to battery draining in suspend mode due to modern standby (S0ix). In this guide, we will workaround this issue by setting up a suspend-then-hibernate policy.

@thenewoil I really wish @frameworkcomputer had a #coreboot or #dasharo #BIOS option.

System76 Open Firmware update disables Intel Management Engine on most of the company's Linux laptops. There's also now an option to enable/disable Secure Boot and TPM2 on models with 13th-gen Intel chips and other changes. https://blog.system76.com/post/major-updates-for-system76-open-firmware-june-2023

@ellenor I don’t need high performance so I use ~15 y.o. hardware that pre-dates the spy chips. But still my hardware was not targeted by #coreboot / #libreboot, so my firmware is non-free. I also have some newer hardware that I pulled out of dumpsters (thus did not contribute to the intel M.E./ AMD #trustzone spy chip market), which I just use for occasional experiments.
