  1. Do you know of any black, indigenous, and/or woman-owned businesses selling #candles

I'm looking to get some votive candle holders, and probably will be getting some candles in the nearish future.

I'd probably prefer companies relatively near me (I'm in coastal Georgia) but I'm open to suggestions. I've found a few but they're mostly West Coast.

  2. Deciding that I wanted to wear bowties years ago was one of the most fun decisions I ever made. Mostly the decision was to get over the fact that anyone actually cared what I wore.

Though people do notice bowties. And are impressed if you actually know how to tie one, though IMO it's simpler than a Windsor knot.

  3. Random memory that came up recently:

Around 2018 or so I was working at a great little company in downtown #Savannah I went into the office once or twice a week and, when I was there, I'd walk two blocks or so down the Coffee Fox.

One particular day I'm strolling along and, right outside the Fox, this young college-aged gal approaches me and says, "Excuse me, I know this is weird, but can I take a picture with you? We're doing a scavenger hunt for class, and I need someone wearing a bowtie."

And that's how I ended up standing on Broughton street, taking selfies with half a dozen or so SCAD students.

  4. Watching The Terminator (1984) for the first time in years. I somehow forgot it starts in 2029. Which seemed so far away in 1984

  5. Had a counseling appointment yesterday. Normally I do Mental Health Mexican after.

However, I decided to walk around #ForsythPark. I then opted for Counseling Cuban, and head to Rancho Alegre Cuban Restaurant.

It's one of my absolute favorites in #Savannah, but I don't get there nearly often enough. Very good mojito, empanadas, and arroz con gandules.

  6. Went to my first #Pride event yesterday, The Savannah Pride Festival. Got there later than I intended, but most of the booths were still open. I got a (distant) picture of the Drag performers, which were a lot of fun.

Also talked with the fine folks at #FreeMomHugs and have signed up to volunteer.

It was a beautiful evening in #ForsythPark in #Savannah and I’m glad I went.

  7. Where are the #progressiveChristians at? What about the #Exvangelicals? Trying to expand who I read on the ol' toot box

    Say hi!

I'm an almost 50 white dude from the Deep South, an ordained Southern Baptist no less, who is working to decolonize my own faith and live out a life Christ would be proud of.

  8. I've been reading Hanna Reichel's excellent "For Such a Time as This: An Emergency Devotional."

Today's reading, "One Body", or Hold onto Unity, is incredibly thought- and hope-provoking.

    A couple snippets:

"Conversations over different interpretations of the faith, advocacy for peace and justice, service for the marginalized and poor, and proclamation of the gospel could not be in competition with each other. Their grounding in Christ meant that they should instead deepen and enrich each other."

"Unity is not a claim that we agree on all things, or even the hope of future agreement. Unity is a commitment to grapple with one another, rather than give one another up. Unity insists that we have something to learn from each other, and that our gifts can complement each other. Unity does not mean integrating smoothly or sweeping disagreements under the rug. Unity means curating spaces in which we can challenge one another in a spirit of love."

  9. I need to write up my thoughts to organize them. But I had someone recently -- a young professional from Savannah -- that I should talk to someone but I might not think they were very smart at first because they had a deep Southern accent. It's wild this is still a thing.

Got me thinking about the classism that's baked into us, even lifelong Southerners hating ourselves.

And about how much I HATE the term "redneck" used to mean "white trash."

I come from a family of #rednecks who are farm workers and construction workers. And they all work harder than you, I bet, for much less.

  10. While I’m posting random nonsense, Ron is the guy who told me one of the great truths of #softwaredevelopment

I had come downstairs after spending hours troubleshooting a bug that of course turned out to be a one line change. I told Ron about my frustration and he said, “yeah it’s one line. But the trick is knowing which line to change.”

I do not believe twirled his mustache but he should have

  11. There’s a man at another table who has a massive handlebar mustache. Curls at the end, it’s incredible. He has more hair in that mustache than on his head. All completely white.

I used to work with a guy who had a mustache like that. His name was Ron and he was Texan, as he would tell you at a moments notice.

I’ve no idea if this man is Texan. I kinda hope so, as a tribute to Ron.

  12. There’s a way a Southern woman can say “thank you” where the “you” has 3 syllables. It’s amazing and amusing

The lady at the table next to me just did it.

  13. @ajcnews email this morning with a link to this article.

is getting what it voted for. More hospitals closing, fewer jobs, fewer providers, fewer resources. Dying to own the libs.
