I've been reading Hanna Reichel's excellent "For Such a Time as This: An Emergency Devotional."
Today's reading, "One Body", or Hold onto Unity, is incredibly thought- and hope-provoking.
A couple snippets:
"Conversations over different interpretations of the faith, advocacy for peace and justice, service for the marginalized and poor, and proclamation of the gospel could not be in competition with each other. Their grounding in Christ meant that they should instead deepen and enrich each other."
"Unity is not a claim that we agree on all things, or even the hope of future agreement. Unity is a commitment to grapple with one another, rather than give one another up. Unity insists that we have something to learn from each other, and that our gifts can complement each other. Unity does not mean integrating smoothly or sweeping disagreements under the rug. Unity means curating spaces in which we can challenge one another in a spirit of love."

is someone available to look over my talk/sermon? it's last minute and i have to send it in about 2 hours. it's on #RacialJustice.it uses the #BookOfMormon jsyk, also the Bible , Matthew 15: 21-28.
i'm a layperson and still developing confidence in my interpretation and usage of scripture. the audience is mostly older white people, but not exclusively. the audience is important to know for any message.

As a human, as a citizen of Earth, as a US citizen, as a critic of and sometime financial victim of the USA's expensive and chaotic #healthcare system, and as a #ProgressiveChristian (#BeUMC #StayUMC), this series of blatant financial crimes in the name of #Christian sharing, horrifies and angers me.
As does the fact that Ohio AG office, other regulators, the IRS and the Federal Reserve, each with jurisdiction over some parts of this con scheme, have done nothing meaningful to stop them.

The #Christian message is #LOVE. However, love is not what many feel when they go to #church. They feel judgment. They feel condemnation. They are made to feel fear. They are made to feel unworthy. And they are made to feel like they will never be enough, they will never measure up, and that who they are is offensive to God.
It's time to change all that, and learn once again to walk in love.

Now for something completely different.
As a Latino, #progressive Christ follower, I'm frustrated when the common decency, care, compassion, teachability, etc. encapsulated by the word "woke" is drowned out by those weaponizing that word against #BIPOC, #LGBTQIA, other communities, & allies.
This is my attempt to do some word reclamation, grounded in scripture.
Guess it's also a test of how well civil discourse works on Mastodon... please chime in!
