I get why it’s hard for people to understand why I’m proud to be from #WestVirginia and equally proud to be from the general region of #Appalachia. Even I used to tell people I was from South Florida rather own up to being #Appalachian.
I get that you see bad things about us on the news and you have your tidy little stereotypes about #hillbillies and #rednecks. But I’d certainly rather be known as a union man than a fascist, and my blood, my family, is much of what drives my own politics.

I need to write up my thoughts to organize them. But I had someone recently -- a young professional from Savannah -- that I should talk to someone but I might not think they were very smart at first because they had a deep Southern accent. It's wild this is still a thing.
Got me thinking about the classism that's baked into us, even lifelong Southerners hating ourselves.
And about how much I HATE the term "redneck" used to mean "white trash."
I come from a family of #rednecks who are farm workers and construction workers. And they all work harder than you, I bet, for much less.
