  1. I think collections/starterpacks could be really helpful driving the discovery of content published on platforms like WordPress or Ghost.

Wonder if support is already planned in the WP ActivityPub plugin for example @pfefferle?

  2. The Last Republican, a 2024 documentary directed by Steve Pink about the Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger and his path defending US democracy after January 6th is now available to watch for free on Youtube for the first time:

Being reminded of some of the things Trump tried to do but got blocked on by people in his own administration makes me worry about what will happen in the coming years when there are no people like that in his 2nd admin...

  3. The ship that is suspected to have cut an underwater communications cable in the Gulf of Finland earlier today and has reportedly been stopped by Finnish authorities near Porkkala

Seems like it could be the Fitburg: marinetraffic.com/en/ais/detai

Edit: Has now been confirmed as Fitburg by the Finnish media as well as coast guard photo.

  4. @EeveeEuphoria you're not wrong about #Brave when it comes to it being associated with everything #BrendanEich stands for but I'm not sure about painting his resignation from #Mozilla as the easy way out.

We know when CEOs resign it isn't always really out of their own choosing despite what the company says and before that he did make conciliatory statements that indicated he was trying to stay. They seem to have fallen short of renouncing any homophobic views though.

Do you know of something that suggests Mozilla would have let him stay if he had done that or if he was already going to have to leave whether he did that or not?

  5. Going with #HoloISO doesn't seem like it would make much sense to me. As far as I understand it is something like an unauthorized derivative of #SteamOS so you'd be putting yourself at Valve's whims without Valve okaying it and no voice at all in the development process.

I like getting the dev team of an open distro involved, I guess #ChimeraOS might have been better if they fit that description as well though.

  6. Metro Awakening VR is looking like it could be the high quality VR shooter we have been looking for since Half-life: Alyx or at least that is the impression I got from the newly released trailer youtube.com/watch?v=R3-77MKew0

Fairly sure this is going to make its way to #PCVR too since #VertigoGames usually does multiplatform. Might even get to #metaquest although that is going to require a lot more work since this is thankfully not looking like a Quest game ported to PSVR2 to me at all. Too bad #visionpro does not want to do VR...

  7. @liliputing_ 10 inch tablet plus controllers sounds like stretching it for the definition of a handheld gaming device. My arms already get tired with the deck sometimes

  8. As their excellent series on World War 2 is slowly nearing its end (current week by week episodes are covering December 1944), TimeGhost has announced their next major project for 2024 focusing on understanding the threats democracy is facing through a historical lens.

The first season will cover the fall of Weimar Germany and Hitler's rise to power.

  9. @jake4480 #virtuality is pretty much the closest thing to home/consumer VR that the 90s saw.

  10. @rolle I agree that just ignoring the parts that might be losing potential users for Mastodon is not constructive. Telling people what Mastodon has got going for it vs. the alternatives can be useful advocacy but making it better is even more so.

I agree with everything you mentioned as issues, for onboarding I’d say better discovery would be good in general but certainly some of the tips that people post to help new users ought to really be something that Mastodon guides you to do.

I’ve been thinking a lot about building topical content feeds etc. that can help discovery recently. I think your #fedionfire project could help with that too.

  11. #pipertts has made a real difference for my computer usage by giving me easy to use and high quality #tts on Linux. I find myself listening to lots of articles with it. Some kind of browser integration could be a nice addition but I don't think it exists yet.
