Another Oolong sample from Mud and Leaves, this one a Taiwanese 2019 "Alishan Jin Xuan Golden Lily". A "Milk Oolong", it is very light, subtle oolong with no roast and medium (25%) Oxidation. Tasty, but I probably should have drunk it sooner...
-
HeHuanShan High Mountain Oolong (2019) from Mud and Leaves light and cheery Taiwanese oolong; light oxidation, no roast. Almost a green tea. I should probably have drunk it sooner, but the sample was vacuum sealed, so probably not much change in my cool basement storage.
-
Alishan High Mountain Jade Oolong (spring, 2021) from Mud and Leaves is a super clean light oxidation and roast Taiwanese oolong. Pretty close to a green tea.
-
Zhangping Shui Xian (Roasted) from Rivers and Lakes tea. This version is tasty too, but as a small matter of preference, this morning I feel I prefered the previous unroasted version.
-
For the most part oolong tea isn't sold in compressed form. The only real exception is Zhangping Shui Xian from Southern Fujian. It is often sold in these cute little tile shaped pillows. This is a very nice example from Rivers and Lakes tea.

A very nice Taiwanese Dong Ding Oolong from Eco-Cha Teas that has not declined for being slightly aged. Kind of perfect.

Li Shan High Mountain. Taiwanese oolong from a long ago Eco-Cha tea club shipment.

2020 Snowflake (fall) Yashixiang (Duckshit) Phoenix Township Dancong Oolong from One River Tea. Going places.

Wenshan Baozhong is a very low oxidation oolong. This "Competition Grade" sample came from the (Taiwan based) Eco-Cha tea club in 2020 or 2021. It drinks like an extra floral green tea. Oddly, even though it is low oxidation and little to no roast, you sometimes see aged versions of Wenshan Baozhong.

Enjoying my remaining Dancong samples from the MyTeaPal club, as the heyday of direct shipped cheap goods from China winds down. Gong Xiang Dancong, a lighter roast processed tea.

Dancong Oolong are often called after a fragrances they evoke, sometimes these fragrances are familiar to Western audiences, sometimes they are not. This Po Tou Xiang Dancong from MyTeaPal is one of the "not". Supposedly evocative of the flowers of Chinese Violet (Telosma cordata), I've got no frame of reference for the scent. It is a very nice!

Yong Chun Fo Shou from MyTeaPal is a very green Fujian oolong , low oxidation and little to no roast. Enjoyable and perfume forward, more in modern Anxi or Taiwan style than Wuyi.
-
Oops, I thought Black Jade from Volition Tea Co was a black tea, but it is a Dancong Oolong. A tasty Dancong Oolong!

Some Dark Roast Anxi Rou Gui Oolong from Verdant Tea for this Sunday morning.
Tasty, but a little shy with its flavor, should maybe have drunk sooner.
-
If you're looking for a company that sells high quality Chinese tea and ships from the US, Minnesota based Verdant Tea is a good one to investigate. This is a Dark Roast Anxi Rou Gui Oolong.
-
Still wandering through my teaware looking for the best way to brew Dancong Oolong consistently. This is a nice Honey Orchid Dancong from MyTeaPal Club. Maybe brewing Dancong consistently isn't in my skill set?

This is a bottom of the bag blend of roasted Taiwanese oolong from Eco-Cha, red Taiwanese oolong from Mud and Leaves, and roasted Anxi oolong from Verdant Tea. Pretty good, actually.
-
Several years back I was in a tea club from Taiwanese based company Eco-Cha. This is a very nice Roasted Tsui Yu Oolong Tea from that club.
-
Oolong Sunday. Taiwanese Roasted Tsui Yu Oolong from a long ago Eco-Cha tea club shipment.
-
Dark Roast Anxi Ruan Zhi from Verdant Tea is a very enjoyable dark roast Anxi oolong! More complex than most, not just roast flavor.
-
Dark Roast Anxi Ruan Zhi Oolong from Verdant Tea. Very nice dark roast oolong, toasty dark roast scent and oolong flavor peeking out from beneath. If you're looking for a company that ships high quality Chinese tea in the US, Verdant Tea is a good one to try.

Nearing the bottom of this bag of Taiwanese red oolong from Mud and Leaves.

Oolong or black tea? Somewhere in between? I always enjoy DalunShan Red High Mountain Oolong no matter how you classify it.

Technically this is a blend of the last couple grams of Yunnan Sourcing GABA Osmanthus Oolong (mostly osmanthus flowers) and White2Tea's Osmanthus Oolong. It's actually kinda good, a successful blend.

Yunnan Sourcing GABA Oolong with osmanthus flowers via a trade with a tea friend. As I understand it, "GABA" teas are processed in an anaerobic environment which encourages the presence of Gamma-aminobutyric acid in the tea. Osmanthus flowers have a taste/smell similar to apricot or peach, you'll probably recognize it from herbal iced tea (tisane) at hippie cafes.

Lost and forgotten Osmanthus Oolong from White2Tea.
-
2019 Osmanthus Oolong (Tie Guan Yin) from White2Tea is maybe a bit past its prime, but still tasty.
-
I found this "Osmanthus Oolong" from White2Tea at the back of my Dancong stash. Looking at the dry leaves, it definitely is not Dancong. Funnily, when I asked White2Tea about this "Osmanthus Oolong", they didn't remember it either. I guess we both forgot about it. Anyway, it is a tasty tie guan yin style oolong, vaguely osmanthus scented (though, no actual osmanthus flowers involved).

Honeyed Pomelo Dancong Oolong is pretty weird to drink. It does in fact pretty closely mimic the flavors/scents of citrus flowers and wildflower honey. Who can complain about that?

Finishing off Red Duckshit Dancong Oolong bag, blending with a bit of Moonbloom Dancong to top up the dose, both from White2Tea.

Moonbloom Dancong from White2Tea. After losing my favorite light porcelain gaiwan for Dancong to klutziness, experimenting with flash steeps in a Jiri Duchek Kohiki pot.

"Daily Milan Dancong" from White2Tea, a reasonably priced Mi Lan (Honey Orchid) style oolong. Nothing fancy, but tasty and gets the day started.

Compressed Dancong Oolong isn't really a thing, unless you're crazy enough to make it so. 2018 Carbolic Soap (Huxley quote) from White2Tea.
