Woo! Last of the 2023 White2Tea greens! Mao Jian King, (despite Google autocorrect's insistence on calling it Mao "Joan" King,) is always a treat, even if it is a bit "vintage".

Gaiwan brewing purple silver bud only green tea just for variety. (I don't usually brew green tea in a gaiwan.) But I figure, since it is almost more like a baihao yinzhen, why not?

White2Tea's "Purple Silver" is technically a green tea, but it drinks a lot more like a bud only white tea from Fujian. Grain sweetness, low astringency, and no bitterness to speak of.

Another bud only early spring green tea from White2Tea, 2023 Bamboo Green. Light in flavor, this is a refined Sichuan green tea, with sweet grain-like flavors.

Despite being a bit "vintage" for a green tea, White2Tea's 2023 cloud mist green is a very enjoyable. Don't immediately disregard well stored slightly old green teas!

Emerald Buds (2023) from White2Tea is an early spring bud only Chinese green tea from Guizhou. A pan fired green tea, it is generally in the vicinity of Longjing/Dragonwell green tea, light, slightly nutty.

Mao Jian No. 2 from White2Tea's spring green tea drop is always one of my favorites. The 2023 release was no exception.

I usually try to get through green teas within a couple years, but a few 2023 White2Tea green teas are still left, including this mao feng. Perhaps less impactful than it would have been when it was fresher, it is still very enjoyable.

Final experiment in cross cultural blending: 5g White2Tea Tale Chaser (roasted ripe puerh) and 2g Yunomi Naturalitea Superior Hojicha. Weird, I like the blends that are unevenly divided between the teas more than evenly divided blend.

I really enjoy Tale Chaser, a charcoal roasted ripe puerh from White2Tea, but my wife is not a fan. "Tastes like seaweed," she says, (she says that about all ripe puerh). I can detect no wet pile or off taste and don't exactly find seaweed unappealing. Different strokes...

Scarlet Floret from White2Tea is a Fujian black tea, and a pretty classic example of the style of black tea made in Fujian at that. High scent, like plum or cherry blossom, low astringency, little bitterness.

Great Blue Heron is pine smoked raw puerh, (semi-aged maocha blend). Interestingly, I get more character of the base tea and less pure smoke from the smoked raw puerh than I did from Camphire (ripe puerh) yesterday.

Camphire from White2Tea is a pine smoked Shou puerh (similar to smoked lapsang black tea). If you like smoked teas, smokey Scotch Whisky, and Mezcal, this is a shou puerh for you.

It's only taken me 5 years to drink through this pound of shou puerh minis. Why am I still buying more tea?

2024 Spring Yunnan Baicha Fuzhuan is another unusual hybrid tea from White2Tea, Yunnan white tea sent to be Hunan to be processed as "jingua heicha" or "fu bricks". You can already see “golden flowers,” (Eurotium cristatum), in the dry tea. Slight fennel-fruity character in the flavor, thick bodied tea. How will it age? Who knows?

W2T says this Brown Sugar ripe puerh biscuit was from a "long ago club shipment". Is 2019 tea shipped in 2020 really "long ago"? It is well settled into its character.

W2T calls Zayton Black, "a throwback traditional style of black tea". It is a bit burly, somewhere between a Fujian and Dian Hong in style. A little fruit, a little savory. A good way to start the day, but doesn't have a lot of length or complexity for Gong Fu brewing. Might be better brewed Western-Style (or Grandpa).

White2Tea's 2024 Jamrock Steady is, "Another one of these white2tea years in the making experiments. Aged raw Puer maocha from the mid 2010's pressed alongside light ferment small batch shou Puer than is 2-4 years old in a blend meant to mimic tea with decades of age." Easy drinking, calming energy; Jamrock Steady is an interesting experiment in puerh blending.

First real winter rainstorm of the season is a good day to get out a Shou Puerh mini from the 2021 W2T Trick or Treat Bag. Lesser Evils small batch Shou was one of my faves from the assortment.

Every once in a while a lemon or two on our tree is spared by the rats. Somehow, they become enormous and sometimes they are monsters. The tea is Lumberjack Breakfast from White2Tea, a heartier everyday Fujian blend.

I am trying out a bunch of huangpian. This is the Chapo Mid 2021, and it left me pleasantly surprised.

Zhenghe Red from White2Tea is a Fujian tea. It is a black tea made from a varietal usually used for Fujian white tea, "Zhenghe Dabai". Darker herbaceous and fruit flavors, more raisins than stonefruit.

2023 Sichuan Gan Lu (probably not meng ding) from White2Tea. Umami, light flavor, returning sweetness. A very clean green tea.

A new bag of (slightly vintage) 2023 Cloud Mist Green tea from White2Tea. A regular member of their annual spring green mob, their Sichuan Cloud Mist Green is subtle, slightly herbal, with a touch of narcissus and lingering tingling energy.

There are advantages to compulsively including additional bags of tea you enjoy in orders. For example while everyone else complained to White2Tea about them not making Daily Jinjunmei black tea last year, I could quietly drink down my 4 bags (and distribute some to friends)...
