I don't notice a huge difference between "light roast" and "classic" Hojicha from Hojicha.co, in either the color of the dry leaves or the flavor of the tea. Both are fine and delightful Hojicha. Tho, it could be that the slightly vintage nature of the tea (2023) has smoothed some edges.

Frankly, pushing Hojicha to 4 steeps is a bit dubious. (Yet I do it anyway.) People always say ripe puerh tastes like fish, but Hojicha pushed to 4 steeps really tastes like seaweed in the later long steeps! (This is light roast Hojicha from hojicha.co).

Pretty amber yellow brew, light roast Hojicha from the Kyoto based company that popularized this style of Japanese roasted green tea (hojicha.co). The previous naturalitea hojicha was made from spring sencha, this hojicha made from the more typical bancha. A pleasant warming and mellow brew.

Same deal, but out of curiosity increased it to a 50-50 blend of White2Tea Tale Chaser (charcoal roasted ripe puerh) and Hojicha (Yunomi NaturaliTea Superior). The nice part is I like the longer steeps more than when just brewing the Hojicha.

I stocked up on organic hojicha this week. It's a roasted Japanese green tea that's good for winter: warming, lovely aroma, low caffeine. It's a soothing, comforting treat for me.

Most green teas exert too much of a cooling effect on my body (yes, even when they are served hot) to enjoy them in cold weather. Hojicha to the rescue!

If you find green teas don't sit well with you in winter, or that they have too much caffeine, you may find hojicha is a good choice.

It sounds like somebody made you do that :)
If it's a good #hojicha, you may even raise the temperature (but starting with a medium one of 180F is a hood strategy anyway) - it's roasted after all.
