Scarlet Floret from White2Tea is a Fujian black tea, and a pretty classic example of the style of black tea made in Fujian at that. High scent, like plum or cherry blossom, low astringency, little bitterness.
-
W2T calls Zayton Black, "a throwback traditional style of black tea". It is a bit burly, somewhere between a Fujian and Dian Hong in style. A little fruit, a little savory. A good way to start the day, but doesn't have a lot of length or complexity for Gong Fu brewing. Might be better brewed Western-Style (or Grandpa).

Every once in a while a lemon or two on our tree is spared by the rats. Somehow, they become enormous and sometimes they are monsters. The tea is Lumberjack Breakfast from White2Tea, a heartier everyday Fujian blend.

Zhenghe Red from White2Tea, Fujian varietal usually used for white tea was used to produce a black tea.

Zhenghe Red from White2Tea is a Fujian tea. It is a black tea made from a varietal usually used for Fujian white tea, "Zhenghe Dabai". Darker herbaceous and fruit flavors, more raisins than stonefruit.

There are advantages to compulsively including additional bags of tea you enjoy in orders. For example while everyone else complained to White2Tea about them not making Daily Jinjunmei black tea last year, I could quietly drink down my 4 bags (and distribute some to friends)...

Since I always say White2Tea's Arbor Red is black tea for puerh drinkers, I was curious to see how Arbor Red would react to brewing in Jiri Duchek Rye stoneware, instead of the usual ruyao gaiwan, would affect the tea. (I usually only brew young raw puerh in Duchek Rye stoneware.) My initial impression is it makes a huge difference, smoothing the rough edges of the tea. Maybe a little too much?

My wife is out of town, so I can enjoy this burly black tea from White2Tea on Saturday morning. 2018 Arbor Red is a bit smoky, a bit bitter, touch of returning sweetness; definitely a black tea for people who enjoy aggressive raw puerh.

This "2017 prize winning smoked hong cha" (aka Lapsang Souchong aka Zhengshan xiaozhong) is one of the first teas I ordered direct from China. Thankful to have embarked on this tea journey.

2023 Azure Spring Yunnan Sun Dried Ancient Tree Black Tea is from a Taiwan based producer via Mud and Leaves. Less aggressive than I expected, quite mellow dark stone fruit flavor, but with strong, fast energy. Zip, zap, zoom!

Oolong or black tea? Somewhere in between? I always enjoy DalunShan Red High Mountain Oolong no matter how you classify it.

Taiwanese red oolong are some of my favorite teas in general, but they are particularly good for travelling. It is almost impossible to brew them badly. DalunShan Red High Mountain Oolong from Mud and Leaves.

After a few days of hotel tea packet dust and watery diner iced tea, nice to be back to actual tea. DalunShan Red High Mountain Oolong from Mud and Leaves.

Imperial Pure Bud Yunnan Black Tea of Simao is another tongue twister of a tea from Yunnan Sourcing. Fortunately, it is a very pleasant and well priced malty black tea that they make pretty much every year.

Getting close to the dense heart of Astro Red, a pleasantly bitter Yunnan black tea made from the same material as White2Tea's Astro Kittens raw puerh (from a few years back).

Fujian black tea with osmanthus flowers from One River Tea. Not always a fan of osmanthus flavor tea, but this one is more tea than osmanthus. My wife inevitably asks "what is that great smelling tea" whenever I brew it.

After a week of pretty intense Taiwan aged raw puerh, taking a break with some not too complex black tea. "Quickly Black" from White2Tea must have come from the tea club, as I find no info about it on their site. Probably Fujian, but maybe Chaozhou/Guangdong (reminds me a bit of Milan Red). Will have to check with them.

2021 "Dancong Hong" from One River Tea. I don't find this tea on their website currently, so not sure if it was a one-off or is a regular offering. From the packaging, I can see it is a Black tea made in Phoenix Township, aka Dancong Oolong central. It is a fine tasty everyday black tea, (but not in the same league with White2Tea's Milan Red).

I've drunk a lot of "Lapsang Souchong" over the years, but those from Tong Xin She Teahouse remain my favorites, especially this "prize winning" version from 2017. One of the very few where the tea isn't completely overwhelmed by the smoke. Elegant.

Hadn't posted anything #tea -related in the last 4 or 5 months due to the fact I had to move to a new country and left almost all my stuff in Ukraine.
I'm not sure that I'll see my collection again, so, till this day, I had only one #kyusu by #Koshin and brewed mostly in a thermos I bought in #SaoPaolo.
But today, I went for a grandpa-style brewing cup, and some ass-cheap noname #JJM #HongCha, so bear with me, @tea people! -
Tea and oatmeal, the week begins in earnest.
