Trying another puerh from Xizihao Daughter Tea, 2017 Ginseng Brick Ripened Puerh. Warming, easy drinking ripe puerh with a pleasant huigan (lingering sweet bitterness) and surprisingly zippy head based energy.

There's a sort of convergent evolution as ripe and raw puerh age. Which is to say, a 20 year old ripe puerh is pretty similar to a well aged raw puerh. Ripe puerh starts funky and mellows with age. Raw puerh starts harsh and gets mellow and funky with age. This is a 2002 Golden Leaf Shu Pu'er from Verdant tea. It is mellowed sufficiently that it is essentially indistinguishable from a well aged raw puerh. It is a very enjoyable and long lasting cup.

At 9 years old, 2014 Red Shroom Shou Puerh from White2Tea goes back to the early days of the company. I always say raw puerh gets weirder with age and ripe puerh gets less weird. Not entirely true, but after 5 years in White2Tea storage and 4 years in my basement, Red Shroom has mellowed with age and tastes like a rich and slightly funky black tea. Another good cold weather tea.
