  1. At first they blamed #WorkAtHome for the collapse of downtown office building occupancy, and sure, that had some small part to play. But it turns out that it’s #AI layoffs that are now undermining the office real estate market, which led to a substantial sell-off today.

  2. Wind, power outage, and cable outage apparently fried my cable modem. Not how I'd hoped to start my work (at home) day.

  3. I just realized that both kids are home from school today and that means I don't have to go pick them up. Yes, I am only realizing this now, at 2pm.

  4. I've got for long stints with a certain amount of loneliness because, for instance, when I started prepping more than a decade ago, people backed away slowly thinking I was nuts. Now, they come to me for advice. Same with the wild shift in politics since 2020.. I immersed myself in what was going on to learn the actual truth, it angered my friends. Now they ask me what is the whole story is. Same with climate change. My friends thought I was being an idiot. Now they listen when I warn them. It is a long lonely road sometimes, but it pays off. I'd rather be right than needy and scrambling to catch up.

Now I find myself in another conundrum. Trying to balance time spent online while keeping up to date with what is going on, and working on items for my shop, my home and all the things I need to do to live. The dopamine hits we all get from endless scrolling, reading snippets, other's opinions, quick shots of pretty places or funny cats is a serious physical addiction and it has changed us. I'm old enough to have lived as an adult before the internet, before cell phones, before the constant barrage of information- some true, much of it not true. I've seen what spending too much time online does to my concentration, my ability to read a book, my ability to focus and my ability to relax with silence and no sensory input. And I've seen how much time it eats away from my work and my irl life. The past month I've started working on change.

I need to work hard now as finances took a serious hit with first covid, then the writer's strike. I am having to relearn how to get seriously productive by giving myself goals, and rewards. So far this month I have been overreaching my productivity and that is good because it means when I need to rest or some unexpected event happens, I have a buffer.
I've always been a rogue and done things my own way, read the signs, and reacted before other people. Social media is in decline as well as other forms of internet based entertainment and news gathering. Things are escalating. Time to get to work.

  5. - 6 yo: "Dad, you have A LOT of smartphones in your office"
    - me: "... Yes, indeed"
    - 6 yo: "How many... maybe... 10?"
    - me: "Hmm... well... a lot more!" 😅

  6. Thanks to moving my desk upstairs, the fish in my paperweight are now swimming in the lake.

  7. Bubbles has questions about the me moving my desk from the living to the upstairs office:

Where’s my bed? Where’s my sunbeam? When are you going back downstairs where we belong?!

  8. I like working at home and we have gone hybrid. I have a great setup for working at home. Separate room, phone, scanner, printer, coffee machine, fridge with juice and snacks. Very comfortable chair (a must) and a larger monitor (would like a 32", but 24" works). Only downside is my headset for PC based conference calls (O365) must be wired and not wireless.

  10. CW: COVID, work, face-to-face meetings

Please remember (and accommodate) those who cannot meet face-to-face due to risks to themselves or family/household members.

We increased inclusivity and flexibility during the pandemic. It would be a shame to lose that silver lining in a rush back to in-person meetings.

  11. CW: COVID, work, face-to-face meetings

Face-to-face contact is great, no question, but mitigate risk by staying home when you have symptoms, masking if crowded indoors, and using ventilation.

Long COVID can leave even fit and healthy younger people who were not hospitalised with fatigue, brain fog, etc.
