WILLIAM BELL
It's Time You Took Another Listen
1977 U.S. pressingFriday night #soul of the highest order.
A very FUNKY kind of mid to late #70s soul; mastered and recorded to perfection, as it is one of the greatest SOUNDING records of that genre and period.
Bell was hugely responsible for the evolution of STAX’s sound, and the dude was an incredible songwriter.
“Yesterday I Lied, Today I Cried” is phenomenal, and the 8+ minute “Morning Glory” is the heartbeat of this entire record.
Super underrated, VERY important dude, and a GREAT record.

"Have I Told You Lately" is a song written and recorded by Northern Irish singer and songwriter #VanMorrison for his nineteenth studio album, #AvalonSunset (1989). It is a romantic #ballad that is often played at weddings, although it was originally written as a prayer. The opening line is from the song "#IForgotToBeYourLover" by #WilliamBell. It was released as the album's lead single on 5 June 1989 by #Mercury.

This week's #alternateFridayMusic theme is #water.
This is an excellent live version of a soul classic, originally recorded in 1961:
William Bell: You Don't Miss Your Water (a live performance from 2013)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l97vpagft7YBell had a concert in Helsinki in 2017, after the release of his wonderful comeback album, "This Is Where I Live", and of course sang this song as well.

Hm. I thought I posted this big fella, but apparently not? -- anyway. This is a double bell B-flat bass #tuba.
#WilliamBell was a pioneer modern #tubist and teacher, who had a wondering, and got H N White of Cleveland to build this beast: the "Bellophone."
It worked fine, and he used it for orchestra work. Unlike a double bell euphonium, it actually extended the range of the horn. It had to be very heavy indeed -- something like 60 pounds.

#BobDylan hosted a brilliant "radio" program featuring his quirky takes on music and life. Each show centered on a theme like mothers, jail, and flowers.
I recently discovered an archive of all the Theme Time Radio Hour programs and am listening to "Water" right now. Included: Mommy, Give Me a Drink of Water (#RamseyLewis), Wade in the Water (#TheSonsOfThePioneers), Cool Water (#WilliamBell).
The archive is a bit ad-encrusted, but at least it's free.
