  8. Were you or someone you know a #Tweetbot or #Twitterific subscriber?

Then you may be entitled to compensation - but you shouldn’t take it. Instead you should go download the apps again from the App Store and tell the app you don’t want a Pro-Rated #Refund. These app developers had their livelihoods ripped away by the whims of a billionaire man-child.

It only takes a moment and it will help probably more than you know.

  14. Regarding the state of #Tweetbot and #Twitterific and the refund debacle. Short version: if you’ve already deleted them, redownload and choose to decline the refund so that they can keep making good software. For Tweetbot, there’s an addtional option to transfer the remaining subscription to #Ivory daringfireball.net/2023/03/twe

  15. @gruber thanks, this is an especially important message to get out, especially the bits about actively saying you don't need a refund.

Would you consider adding a hashtag or two so Mastodon's search would turn it up later? Maybe #twitterific and #tweetbot?

I wish all the best to @tapbots and @Iconfactory in this shite situation that #fakestark #spacekaren has created.

If you were a #TweetBot or #Twitterific user until Musk nuked them, please read and boost this: a pair of small, dedicated companies are facing an extinction level event due to Space Karen’s capriciousness, and you can help them just by tapping a few buttons and spending no money that you hadn’t already budgeted to spend. daringfireball.net/2023/03/twe

  21. If you used #Tweetbot or #Twitterific to access #Twitter, please consider rejecting the prorated refund for your subscription, which is due due to Twitter’s heartless ineptitude. In aggregate this amount of money is likely existential for those companies. And it’s simply unfair.

  24. @drewharwell I was going back and forth between #birdsite and here until they cut the api and I couldn't use #twitterific - years ago I left the main app because it was trash, I couldn't see it being any better now, and so that was the end. A couple of times I've gone to the website to see what I'm missing, and the answer is nothing. I'm happier here. It reminds me of when I cut the cord for cable TV - for a while I was addicted to some old shows I would watch in hotels when travelling, and gradually they disappeared and I didn't care any more.

  25. Ok, I’ve been using @MonaApp for a few hours on both Mac and iPad. At the moment I’m hooked. This is the closest to my #twitterific experience I’ve had since coming to Mastodon.

Timeline synchronization between the two via iCloud works well and the number of unread posts seems to be updated correctly.

Making things a bit larger for my older eyes was painless and I can mute right from the timeline.

  27. Nachdem seit kurzem Entwicklerteams von Apps wie (@tapbots) und ohne Ankündigung oder Gründen plötzlich den API-Zugang sperrte, weiß man nun auch warum: will auch die Twitter-API zu Geld machen.

On #iPad, however, I am still missing multi-column support.

  35. Chase a developer away from your platform, and they'll go somewhere else. But what happens when the developer is one of the best out there?

#Twitter blocked third-party clients on Twitter. As a result, developers Iconfactory and Tapbots both discontinued their Twitter clients (#Twitterific and #Tweetbot, respectively).

Now, Tapbots has launched #Ivory, a new #iPhone app that takes Tweetbot's aesthetics and many of its features and applies it to #Mastodon.

  39. Das Aus für Twitter-Clients von Dritten
Das Aus für Twitter-Clients von Dritten kommt vielleicht nicht überraschend. Einige hatten schon letzte Woche keinen Zugriff mehr.

  41. Not a surprise, but what a disappointment. Not sure why, but I ultimately settled on #tweetbot over #twitterific but both were great and both made Twitter great. Or at least useable.

  42. Twitterific was apparently the first iOS app I ever purchased. In 2010! Twitter would never be what it is today without Twitterific other great Twitter clients (I tried so many).

I've been using the #Flamingo app on Android for years now. I use #Tweetbot and #Twitterific on iOS/MacOS. I wouldn't have remained on the birdsite so long without a client. The default app is a hot mess.

  43. This is heartbreaking...

"Finally, if you were subscriber to Twitterrific for iOS, we would ask you to please consider not requesting a refund from Apple. The loss of ongoing, recurring revenue from Twitterrific is already going to hurt our business significantly, and any refunds will come directly out of our pockets – not Twitter’s and not Apple’s. To put it simply, thousands of refunds would be devastating to a small company like ours."

  45. These 3rd party app developpers had brought Twitter to where it was as a social media. For decades API access spurred the development of a commercial ecosystem of third-party apps built around Twitter. And provided superior user control and experience. The shutdown is a disaster for these companies like #Tweetbot, Buffer, and #Twitterific; but also for indie developers, like Matteo Villa, who developed #Fenix, a popular third-party Twitter client. 2/
