I could see myself taking on an insect photography hobby if I didn't already have too many hobbies. There are constant opportunities in this place at this time of year. An iPhone is not the best camera for this work, but sometimes it does ok!
I rescued this pregnant mantis from my wheelbarrow where she appeared miraculously unharmed after having a pile of dried weeds atop her.
After clinging to the stem I offered, she found herself in a much better place full of tall plants and insects. One even surprised us by being on the tansy where I placed her!
I wanted to capture how she was staring at it, but she turned to look at my phone when it moved into view.

CW: super cute shiny black bug
Crappy shots, but I think it's cute! Looks like a designer #Ladybug but in fact those are beetles and this one is a #TrueBug ! Sehirus cinctus ssp. albonotatus the White-margined Burrower Bug. They feed on plant matter, especially nettle and mint family, they say (though neither near this one, I think) but not to the extent that I'd notice or be worried. Just part of the #biodiversity of my chemical free #garden #Alberta #Canada

CW: Tiny Bee and Green Bug on Flowers
Another shot from about the same time, August 01, 2022. I think this is a tiny #bee but I'm not always sure of some of the little bees vs wasps. The little green person may be the nymph of a Lygus sp Tarnished Plant Bug. Another true bug, but I'm really not sure what kind. I think it is in one of the subadult phases. Central Park in late May.
