I'm free again! I finally finished months long campaign of #BarkeepOnTheBorderland with #TroikaRPG

It was thirteen sessions, due to some questionable decisions early on it was shorter than it could've been but I'm not mad. It was fun but again I find myself at odds with buying adventures when I still need to do the heavy lifting.

Now I'm free to be a player in someone else's game (#ApocalypseWorld) and then I'll probably host grim military drama of #BandOfBlades

I plan on running Barkeep on Borderlands in the near future (like half a year from now, minimum, considering our pace) and also maybe try again with some #NSR campaign but for the love of me I don't know which system to choose.

BotB will probably go on Troika! as I want to finally test it. And then? #DURF #cairnrpg #Cairn2e #Octave or #TroikaRPG are my contenders for this experiment, somewhat more epic campaign in low power mid weirdness fantasy.

It is one thing to interact with a hostile stellar arthropod, another thing entirely to interact with a philosophizing stellar arthropod.
So, for the right mood, the Mien table is more important perhaps than the ability scores.

By embrac8ng these two simple concepts I was able to run the most surreal gaming session I ever had, and the most entertaining -and surprising- for all involved in a long time.

Point 2 i(perhaps even more important for emergent play): Even something as horrible as the Loathsome Worm That Will Consume The Sun is rather rarely violently hostile.
And NPCs are not just "friendly, hostile, neutral'.
They are suspicious, distracted, wild, careless, depressed, pompous, hungry, meditative, needy...
This is not merely aesthetics, as you'll discover if you indulge the system as it deserves.

Some post-session thoughts about Troika!
1. Don't underestimate or ignore the absurdity of backgrounds
2. It pays a lot not to script NPC reactions and rely on a creature's Mien Table..

I dare say that with the right combination of the two, half the game is done.

Point 1: an enterprising player will try to use their skills however unlikely. Juust like with equipment: give a player's character cheese and they will find a way to use it to defeat the Goblin King.

Just prepping my #TroikaRPG session for #SommerCon in #Osnabrück next week. I will run #ActiveTimeEvent!!! , and the players can choose from backgrounds like "His Eminent Dopeness, Lil’ Starchild," "Battlebitch," "Irrational Believer in the Simulationist Conspiracy," and the "Obligatory Cutesy Mascot." I am just wondering what I got myself into... a lot of weird fun, I guess.
