This weekend we have a whole day of in-person RPG action starting with a Savage Worlds one-shot set in an arctic research station in Northern Alaska. My ideal TTRPG “go-bag” would be a box set with:

• Enough player facing rulebooks for 4 players
• A Referee facing rulebook (preferably coil-bound)
• Character sheets and Inventory tokens
• Pencils, sharpener, and at least 2 set of polyhedral dice
• A Referee’s screen and/or grid mat with markers
• If space allows, a notebook/journal

My custom Cairn boxset has almost all of this. Just need tokens really.

Cairn 2nd Edition als Box - ich mochte die Einzelbände, aber so als kleine, dicke, schwere Box mit dem SL-Schirm musste ich es einfach noch viel mehr haben. Das Spiel ist mit seinem erdigen, düsteren Stil sehr in meiner Ecke. Das großartige Artwork hilft natürlich enorm.

I decided to build my own Cairn boxset that contains everything I need to run a game. I took my old 5e Starter Set box (Lost Mine of Phandelver version) and put in the following:

• 3 staple-bound copies of Cairn Barebones edition
• Coil-bound copies of the 2nd Edition Player’s and Warden’s books
• Dice bag with stones and multiple polyhedral dice sets
• Character Sheets
• Pencils, markers and a pencil sharpener

All I need is to print out adventures and inventory tokens.

In the meantime, I am finishing up preparing to run The Valley of Flowers post-Arthurian apocalypse campaign using @yochaigal's Cairn 2e role playing game.

We did character creation the other day and these last few chapters of Flowers have blown me away with all the strange and fantastical elements that my family is going to get to interact with. It's going to be a lot of fun and I can't wait to get started.

I am reading through the updated spellbook descriptions in the Cairn 2e #ttrpg. Each spellbound has a description or "personality" and some of them are just as useful or interesting as the spellbooks themselves.

For instance, the Leap spellbook. It let's you jump up to 10 feet, once. Its descriptions states "when thrown, it just keeps going." That could lead to some interesting in-game effects and problem solving.

I had a physical copy of the Liminal Horror Investigators printed at Staples. I am pretty happy with the end result. I'll pick up a copy the Liminal Horror Deluxe once it is in print in 2026.

From my brief flip thru, the game looks great. I am already a big fan of the Cairn system and this looks like a serviceable horror drift of the system.

The excellent Mystery Quest actual play podcast using Liminal finally made me take a look. It was very spooky.

I am consistently impressed with the quality of Lulu's print on demand books.

We have enough copies in the house that all three of my kids and I can now run the game for family and friends. I'm looking forward to it.

According to @yochaigal over on the #CairnRPG Discord server, the #Cairn2e Warden's Guide will join the Player's Guide print on demand availability over on Lulu.com, in softcover and coil bound formats, tomorrow (June 15th).

My understanding is that they both will maintain the affordable price points that Yochai is known for.

My POD copies of #Cairn1e came from Lulu and I am very happy with the surprisingly good quality.

I had this idea for a Cairn lifepath generator where there are three stages of life and you roll 1d6 for your stats at each stage, and also get appropriate items.

I plan on running Barkeep on Borderlands in the near future (like half a year from now, minimum, considering our pace) and also maybe try again with some #NSR campaign but for the love of me I don't know which system to choose.

BotB will probably go on Troika! as I want to finally test it. And then? #DURF #cairnrpg #Cairn2e #Octave or #TroikaRPG are my contenders for this experiment, somewhat more epic campaign in low power mid weirdness fantasy.

I spent my lunch hour converting the #AFistfulOfFeathers #CairnRPG to #Knave2e so I could run it for my work #TTRPG lunchtime group while one of our players is at #GenCon.

I'm getting the hang of these monster conversions to Knave's system. Still can't do it on the fly, but getting close.
