The spectacular suspension by #Somalia of all agreements signed with the #UAE (12 January) as well as the latter’s suspected role in mediating #Israel #Somaliland talks should therefore not come as a surprise, especially after the recent revelations on their use of Bosaso (Puntland) to arm #Sudan ’s #RSF (July 2025) and on their exfiltration of #STC ’s leader al Zubaidi through Berbera and Mogadiscio (8 January).

#Somalia also has grown much closer to #SaudiArabia in terms of security, intelligence and AI, direct flights. There is at least an indirect link with #Yemen, after it was found #STC's Aidarous al-Zubaidi was exfiltrated to #AbuDhabi via Mogadiscio.

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council of Yemen has announced its dissolution.
In a statement, the STC has called on former STC forces to cooperate with Saudi-backed Homeland Shield Forces.
"We praise the measures and solutions issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to meet the needs of the sons of the South [of Yemen]."
