Keep forgetting to post this. At the end of the night a couple days ago, I had a nearly full pate left over.It is turkey pate, which Soda Pop doesn't like for some reason. As per my food waste rules, I gave it to the magpies. It was mostly ignored until a single magpie decided to grab the entire thing. I don't know how far it got with the pate, being a squishy thing.

Intriguing magpie progress to report today. I was putting out the peanuts for the day per usual, when a magpie started bouncing towards me, first filling the insatiable Cat Food Madness, before flying up to the second level. I was standing right off frame, close enough that I could have touched the magpie.

It has taken a bit to get to this point. My sleep schedule, and there simply being so SO many magpies, I rarely have a chance show that I am the provider of peanuts

I think the magpies have caught the Cat Food Madness. It's like Ocean Madness, but 1200km from the nearest ocean, considerably smaller area(the size of a two level shelf), and no one affected knows what an ocean is.

I am doing my daily jumping through teh secondary cameras motion events to get an overview on what happened while I was sleeping. My eyes have not completely adjusted, so the images are blurring together somewhat. Jumped to a spot where a magpie was flying, then immediately jumped to a spot with a moving lawn mower(it was sent down the hill), and I was very confused as to how a magpie had moved the mower...

Some magpie bribing might also be in order, but that is mostly because I cannot think of anything else i need to fill out my cat food order shipment. That big tub of nuts I got them as a thank you gift for speeding up my SSDI case is still reasonably priced.

Not sure they are mad, but the large branch on the second level was knocked over. Based on the video, it might have been intentional.

I can't believe that I almost forgot that it is rapidly approaching magpie courting season!! Admittedly, if last year is any indication, it is 2 months away. Still, I do want to make sure that the magpies consider it a safe spot to feed each other peanuts. It also means that I need to measure sure i stock up on shelled...

With the continuous rain making Catnip Sciences difficult, I been fine tuning the scripts I use sort through the 120+ GB's of video I generate everyday. Night videos are usually the worst for picking up false positives, as the ML model I am using often labels the big stick as a bird. For once, however, it spotted a lone magpie who was out around midnight.

Of course, the day I do a test that requires me to adjust the primary camera is the same day the crows finally decide to show up in force. Backup camera will have to suffice for any results for today.

I don't know the magpies opinion on the children's, but they really didn't like one of the momma raccoons. If I recall correctly, there was a period of time in late May where I would regularly hear a magpie yelling at her. It stopped right around what I still believe was the magpie courtship time, which was approximately when she gave birth.

2026-01-25 #SpookyKittiesSciencesB - I did an unannounced test yesterday with the smaller birdies. Mentioned on occasion my large supply of sunflower seeds that the #SpookyKittiesMagpies hate. I found that the little birds like them more, but I can't mix them with the peanuts. I made a mistake yesterday of putting a bunch out in an empty peanut jar. It worked, but I didn't take into account the fact that the smaller birds taking off would push the jar. Woke up to spilled seeds last night.

2026-01-25 Additional Experiment: I have placed one of Penguin's carrot toys outside to see what happens. This is less for observation, more for the #SpookyKittiesFerals entertainment. I am fully prepared for it to be destroyed, though that is probably solely dependent on the #SpookyKittiesMagpies.

The #SpookyKittiesMagpies are quite picky eaters when it comes to their peanuts. Only now getting rid of my supply of bird grade shelled peanuts due to the influx of smaller, less picky, birds.

Damn grocery store tempting me with a peanut sale! Both of the #SpookyKittiesMagpies in-shell and shelled peanuts are on sale this month. It is so very tempting to simply buy all the shelled I can(25 cans), but fixed income makes me question every purchase, no matter how good. Luckily, no matter what, my birdies with get their human grade peanuts.

The #SpookyKittiesFerals are going to have some words with me tonight, I suspect. Forgot that it is very important that I actually plug in the bowl if I don't want their chicken to freeze. On the plus side, I will have some very happy #SpookyKittiesMagpies who will get a dedicated portion of chicken tomorrow

It appears that Jasper breakfast time is around the same time the Magpies start arriving each day. Jasper has enough time to get in a good meal before they arrive, but is usually still there when the Magpies want to eat. While the Dorian-Inspector relationship is good, and the Dorian-Jasper relationship is making good progress, the Inspector-Jasper relationship is still a work in progress. Based on the magpie's reaction, I am guessing that Jasper was sitting over by the patio just as Inspector Clouseau arrived on the other side of the yard.
