#wipe is a small #utility which #securely erases files.
wipe writes over a file many times. On magnetic media this removes any sort of residual charge the media may have where the file was stored, hiding any trace of the file from the disk.
wipe can easily overwrite entire directories, changing the permissions of files if needed and requested.
