Yellow pond lily, Nuphar lutea, painted on an oyster shell.
This lily is, for me, one of those strange cases of a plant that's been right in front of me, but that I couldn't "see." I first saw these strange lily blossoms in a book of Pacific Northwest native plants, and thought, "Wow! Cool, intriguing shapes. And I've never ever seen one."
So what happens, as soon as I've taught my brain what these lilies look like? The following months had me seeing them all over the place, in places I had definitely been before.
My shells are sold in the shop at the Seattle Art Museum. For information on purchasing shells, please see my website, which has an updated gallery of which are still available: https://kitozbooks.com/product/painted-oyster-shells/
