  1. Good to join the mstdn.starnix.network #fediverse instance! I do appreciate the starNIX name.

    I am a #distrotootrefugee

    I post quite a bit about #linux, #bsd, #retro and other #tech related things.

My own niche is the #RetroEdgeTechStack idea that I am building out.

Looking forward to reconnecting with previous followers and meeting new people!

  2. If anyone knows of a #peertube instance that would be a good fit for #voidlinux, #netbsd, #permacomputing, #retro, #RetroEdgeTechStack and 'more than just software #freedom' topics.. please let me know.

  4. There are so many programs configurable in #Lua. I am making a list.

I revisited the tiling window manager topic. #awesomewm is configurable in Lua, but for now I think I will rewrite my #bspwm config in Lua and learn how to do more advanced customization with conditionals.

Found out that #conky's visualizations are done in Lua with the Cairo graphics library. That looks really cool and I hope to do some with that soon.

Set terminal text and bspwm to #gruvbox colors.

  6. @la_ninpre Very cool that you are using Fossil. It looks really good.

My son set up a #gitea server and we've been using that for a while. For family collaboration, it makes sense to continue to use that and expand our use of it for managing projects.

Fossil fits my ideal of well designed software. I love that it's written in C and that there's just one binary with no dependencies.

Will keep it on my list of software for the #RetroEdgeTechStack

  8. Most of my computer time for normal day to day stuff is spent on #LinuxMint :linuxmint2:.

Most of the computers I upgrade and repair are Windows 10 for customers.

Spending more time with #VoidLinux :void: on the #corebootbook and other machines.

Hoping to do more with #netbsd :netbsd: in the near future.

Did some #lua programming learning last night and my son is figuring out how to use Lua within C.

  10. My son and I have been experimenting with #gopher and #gemini

As a browser, we are most often using #lagrange by @jk

Lagrange is a perfect example of software that matches the #RetroEdgeTechStack ideals. It is a blend of the retro past with current tech possibilities.

Also, written in C and using SDL2 for the graphical interfaces and gpu acceleration. SDL2 allows for slick animations and scrolling without bloated web tech.

There's an #AppImage for Lagrange and it package for #voidlinux

  12. During the rest of this month, I highly recommend that you follow @dudebsd's #OpenBSD BASED Challenge.

    write.as/adventures-in-bsd/

He's using a minimal #bsd install and learning to build up the tools and his skills through the challenge.

Very much in the #RetroEdgeTechStack spirit as he's using tools that have been around for a while but on a current up to date operating system.

  14. @deavmi I knew about it but haven't used it. Please do keep us informed on how you like it.

My vision for the #RetroEdgeTechStack includes #lua as a preferred development and configuration language so I ran across #nelua while searching for things based on Lua.

I'm not really a programmer, but I dabble in it and one of my sons is quite good at it.
