  1. You can hike among the California coastal redwoods, tallest trees in the world, any month of the year. For this #throwbackThursday, a Feb 2021 hike up Berry Glen. I think it's my favorite of the trails actually within Redwood National Park. It might be because it's so little used. It can be bookended by a pair of the park's most popular trails. It starts beside Trillium Falls and climbs to Lady Bird Johnson Trail, joining next to the plaque where the park was dedicated in 1968.

The whole story of this visit is here: valhikes.blogspot.com/2021/02/

  2. @ClimateNewsNow have you ever seen Lady Bird Johnson Grove? It is a charming old growth “garden” and with its views of the Pacific Ocean, gives a glimpse of how massive trees create their own climate. We should consider extending redwood forests into southern Oregon coastal areas with warming temperatures moving north. #Redwoods #redwoodnationalpark #climate #ClimateCrisis #trees

  3. Out to see the big redwood trees on a new trail! This one starts off in old growth, but then climbs through thinning big trees and into an old clear cut that isn't that old. They're still a lot nicer than what you'll find on the other side of the ridge where logging continues to this day. (Less than 5% of the old trees remain.)

  4. Made a second attempt to hike the Lost Man Creek Trail yesterday and wasn't greeted with any mysterious "trail closed" sign! So I got to try it out and experience it's redwoods. Big ones at the bottom. Random big ones a little higher. Future big ones all the way after that. There's less than 5% of old growth redwoods left and this is one of those trails that shows it.

  5. I give you Trillium Falls from yesterday's #hike in #RedwoodNationalPark for #waterfallWednesday! It was a very impressive #ThickTrunkTuesday, but I'll have more for that another time.

  6. Fern Canyon

Fern Canyon is located north of Eureka, Ca and is a real magical place.
The hike into the canyon and back is fairly short and easy but your feet are going to get wet.
Water drips through the canyon walls and is recovered in Fern Creek.
The walls are covered with ferns top to bottom of the canyon with a few fallen Redwoods on the way. See the full image here: fineartamerica.com/featured/fe #FernCanyon #BillGallagherPhotography #aYearForArt #RedwoodNationalPark
