  1. Every time I see Grady Hilhouse drop a new Practical Engineering video, that's an instant click. Ever since I first saw a functioning model of a civil water system on "Mister Rogers Neighborhood" as a kid, I've been fascinated with the built environment. Civil infrastructure is what makes all this (waves arms) work.

  2. I swear to god, Grady's plexiglass models on his #PracticalEngineering channel are my reason for continuing to live. I love a good practical model to show me how the world works (I think I have Mister Rogers to thank for that).

  3. Having an idea for a simple, parametric spool adapter, writing the code in #OpenSCAD, generating the 3MF file for the slicer, sending it to the #BambuLab #A1mini printer and having it printed. All in less than an hour. I like!

  7. One of the (many) things I love about #PracticalEngineering is how it causes me to reevaluate where innovation is happening, and helps me appreciate the incredible engineering still happening in #trains and #rail!

  8. 🚂 When a #train passes by, it's easy to spot the locomotive and caboose, but what about all the railcars in the middle?

🚞 In this delightfully comprehensive #video by #PracticalEngineering, different types of railcars, both passenger and freight, are explained with animated examples and notes on their usage. Also showcased: rail-ready machines and #vehicles used by #railroad companies.

  10. CW: How This Bridge Was Rebuilt in 15 Days After Hurricane Ian - Practical Engineering

The Sanibel Causeway was destroyed by hurricane Ian cutting off the residents of the island from the mainland. Within a month, the causeway was fixed (temporarily) and reopened to traffic. With most construction project we know of taking years to complete, how was it possible to open the causeway so quickly.

In this video Grady covers the impact of an EMP to the electrical grid, and to a lesser extend consumer electronics.

@bronsen auf deutsch kann ich dir leider nichts empfehlen, aber bei englischen Channels sollten #realengineering und #practicalengineering nicht fehlen, wobei die nicht nur Maschinenbau behandeln.
